For those interested in such "reviews". We did it at 26mos and I had an 8wk old at the time...........
We are about 3mos post doing 3DPT. I did it by the book (meaning, zero undies, not for night and not for nap times) and we went from 25 accidents that first day to 12 the second to 4 on the 3rd. We left the house for a family outing the evening of the 3rd day and she peed in a public potty just fine and we got home 4hrs later accident free. The only PTing we had done before doing this method at 26mos old was buying a Bjorn potty ring and showing it to her every now and then but she had never actually used it. In retrospect, using only a potty ring during training has been a blessing. She has never had a fear of big toilets because of it and I do not have to carry a ring or other device with me now (as long as I know there are public restrooms where we are going).
By day 4, even though she was not nap or night dry and had not mastered pooping on the potty yet, I'd still have deemed her "potty trained" because she recognized the urge to pee and was able to allow herself enough time to get to a potty before releasing. She was also able to hold it for quite awhile if need be (like, 10mins). If she did have to poop, I noticed her making herself go before we left on an outing and she'd strip her undies and pants off and do it on the floor in the bathroom lol. So, clearly, recognized the urges and had control over timing after only 3days.
Estimating here, but it took about a month for her to become nap dry and another month after that to become night dry. So I've now had a full month of no more wet linens each morning! We put a floor potty in her room to use throughout the day if she wants to (or if one of us is using the big toilet as we only have 1 bathroom) and during naps and nighttime as we keep her door shut at nights and she wasn't calling out to us when she had to go. This has worked wonderfully. About a month ago, she finally decided to start pooping on the potty (so, yes, I cleaned poop off the bathroom floor, where she'd go, every day for 2 months lol). She did these three things on her own.
She's only ever had 2 accidents in her carseat this entire time. One time we had the Piddle Pad on and that thing was USELESS as we had to strip the seat and wash it anyway it got so wet. After that we put one of her old Gerber waterproof lap pads down that she used as a baby and that thing caught every single drop of accident #2 last month. These accidents were very strange and not like her so we're not sure what to think about them lol.
We use the Potette travel potty and in the beginning she'd have spotty "performance" on it. Meaning, one week she'd pee on it w/o fear and then the next week she'd act like it was a torture device. Thankfully, those ups and downs seem to have disappeared and if we're at the park or somewhere else there are no bathrooms, she'll use it no problem. I love having it because you'd be surprised where you can get caught with a toddler and no public restrooms. I know I've been grateful to have had it more than a dozen times!
So that's that! Oh, and I also did this when the baby was 8wks old. It was so hard those first 2 days and DS got worn alot but he's a big baby so that wasn't really that comfy for me. If I had to suggest a great age to do this, I'd say wait until about 12wks.....they aren't eating quite as frequently anymore as they are at only 8wks old but they still sleep a ton and can of course still be plopped down quickly on a carpet if need be!! lol. Gavin took the frequent nursing interruptions in stride but it was very frustrating for me, I'd have rathered him be a little more spaced out in the nursing department. So that's my take on doing this method with a newborn.
Oh, and getting the 30-ish pairs of undies was and still is a lifesaver.
Any questions, feel free to ask!!
