Name to go with Kilian

Offer some suggestions for a girl name that would go well with big brother Kilian. TIA!

Re: Name to go with Kilian

  • Karly. or Kasey, or Kaydence, or some other name that is supposed to be spelled with a "C" but instead you insist on a K. Like Killian.
  • Classy. Thanks.

FWIW I HATE the C to K names, but I think Killian is one of the few acceptable ones.

  • Claire and Corinne come to mind.

  • Thank you. I actually am not a fan of the trend either, and if my son were to grow up in Ireland, his name surely would have been Cillian. But here in America, I was afraid people would try to pronounce it "silly ehn" due to the similarity to words like cilia. In my book, easy pronunciation is more important than avoiding a naming trend. And there's the point that the K spelling is much more common in America than the C spelling. But I digress...

Thank you. I really like Ainsley, but DH vetoed it. We also would like a name that's easy to pronounce. I know that here on the name board, we all know how to pronounce names like these because we're name geeks... but I'm not sure most people would know how to pronounce Saoirse or Niamh by looking at it. KWIM? Ugh... this is so hard! Thanks for your suggestions!

No problem :) I have a love for Irish names, which unfortunately I can't use because neither DH or I are a smidge Irish! LOL I'll figure some more out and post in a minute.

Your name is perfectly fine. <3

  • If you looking irish though Maura and Tegan i like Fiona too i think someone said that.

  • Bridget, Moira, Norah, Erin, Colleen (although maybe too similar?), Maureen, Eileen, Deirdre, Teagan, Delaney

Are there any girl names on your "okay" list that you could give us, so we could get an idea of what you like?

That's kind of the problem. There are tons of names that I like, but I can't find one that I love. The name does not have to be Irish (our last name is Tang, so really nothing goes, so we kind of decided that anything goes, lol). Other names we like are: Sienna/Siena, Portia, Evangeline, and we both love Kelyn, but think it's way too similar to Kilian. DH loves Giada, but I vetoed it. He also likes Irelyn, but I'm not in love with that at all. Other names on my list are: Ciara, Avery, Liliana, Luciana, Eilis, Amelia, Carsyn, and Annika. We're all over the map.

Clearly you've never had a Killian's Irish Red.

Ok, let's suppose and play it that way. Would you name your child Budweiser, and spell it Budwiser? Or how about Yuengling, but spell it Yuenling? Look at the way she spelt it, there's an "L" missing.

  • But you didnt say anything about that. Your gripe was clearly with the "K" not being a "C"

Hi there. Allow me to point something out to you real quick. I'll start by painting you a little picture: I'm sitting in my living room at my computer and my adorable (if I do say so myself) 5-month old son is playing on the floor next to me. His name is Kilian Thomas. That's right: KILIAN. Now, about 9 months ago, I was pregnant and we found out it was a boy. We loved the name Cillian but had reservations about that spelling for various reasons. We spent months thinking about the different options, trying to come up with what would be best for our little one. We finally settled on a spelling, and just a few weeks later, our precious baby boy was born. We proudly wrote his name on the birth certificate, and we brought him home. We love him more than life itself, and we adore his name, mostly now because is synonymous with who my son is.

I did not ask for your opinions on my son's name. Bash potential baby names at will, but please don't bash the name of a child. Especially to his mother.

I have to agree with this. There is pretty much an unwritten rule on here that we don't bashed already born/named children.

  • omg, can we stop with the c to k debate. have your own baby and name it whatever you want, name it the typical ellie, emma, connor, or go balls to the wall with an asher or OMG krystal.

do realize that not all names that start with a k are there to piss you off, some of them (i'm speaking from my perspective) are "ethnic", as you like to call them. and GASP, some names you see aren't parents being creative but letters missing from the alphabet in that language, or the country's way of spelling that name. expand your mind a bit.

my baby (if indeed it is a girl) will have a k name that is usually spelled  with a c, in the u.s. too fvcking bad... that's how half the world outside the u.s. spells it, *** about it.

  • I will go with pronunciation before trends any day because my name is spelled Alysia pronounced a-lee-she-a. my parents also went with the same sounding sibling names Alysia and Alexis they get mixed all the time. I must have a complex about that now lol.

  • I love the name Kilian!  It's our top boy name.  The girl names on our list are Abigail, Lilith, Caroline (Carolyn), Delilah, Victoria, Fiona, Isla, and Evangeline.  Like you our names are a little all over the place.

"No one knows for sure if "Killian" should be spelled with one "L" or with two "L's." Both spellings are considered correct." From about.com in reference to figure skating's Kilian position.
