OB/GYN West Question

For those of you who have gone to OB/GYN West, when did you get your first ultrasound? I have my first appt with the actual doctor next week and was wondering your experiences. THANKS!

Re: OB/GYN West Question

  • I had an ultrasound ~ 8 weeks at my first appt to find out my due date.

  • I had my first ultrasound at ~6.5 weeks because I was waaaaay off on when my last period was vs estimated conception date. If I remember correctly, they are less likely to give you that first ultrasound if you are fairly certain when your last period was, etc but I could be wrong on that. I know that the next ultrasound they will do is if you do the genetic screening and that will be between 11-13 weeks and is done at the fairview southdale center with a more advanced ultrasound machine. The only other ultrasound we've had was at 20 weeks for anatomy scan. My doc said that as long as I don't have any complications (I haven't) I won't have any other ultrasounds unless the baby appears to be measuring very large in the last few weeks, OR I can choose to have a 3D/4D ultrasound done but insurance would not cover that...

  • I had my first u/s there around 6 weeks, but that was because I had a few bleeding episodes in 1st tri.  I think it's pretty normal to only do the 20-week u/s unless you're having complications or concerns.  GL!

  • If there are no health problems or concerns, 20 weeks is when they do the first ultrasound.  There is an optional NT Scan ultrasound that you can have done around 12 weeks at the hospital.  I opted to have this done, only because my insurance covered it, and I was eager to see my little peanut.  20 weeks seemed like a long time to wait for an ultrasound.

Overall, I was very pleased with my experience.  I see Dr. Johnson and like the fact that they try to deliver all of their own patients.

    Good Luck!
