After researching many different diapers I think I am going to start with the softbums system. Although pricey these seem pretty simple to use and I have seen great reviews. Any opinions on these?
I won an Echo shell and a "pod" (insert) from a twitter party and I absolutely love ours. It took me a few minutes to understand how to size it with the drawstrings, but the inside is super soft and I think they're very high quality. I also really love that the aplix is covered on the outside-our bumGenius diapers left sad red marks on our son's tummy when he was first learning to sit, because they pointed up and rubbed against his skin. That was never an issues with the Echo.
I haven't tried an Omni diaper but I assume they're great too. I'm interested in them because I like that they can be used as an all-in-two or as a pocket.
Even though you've researched many systems, I still wouldn't put all my eggs, um diapers, in one basket. ;-) Fit is super important and one diaper that works fantastically on one baby may not work on another because of individual build despite the features for which you are looking. Most of us have multiple system households because we have found that certain diapers work well for certain situations ex:AIOs are great for grandparents/sitters, pockets are great for customizable absorbency, fitteds are great for being out and about, etc.

This is what I was going to say.
I was also going to say that, along those lines, there are a couple other systems that function much the same as Soft Bums- Flip and Best Bottoms, for example. If the concept of the system is what you're most interested in, I would buy 1 of each (with a couple inserts) and see what works best for your baby because they will all fit differently.

This. I loved the idea of Softbums (the Echo shell, specifically -- this was a few months ago, and the Omni wasn't available yet), but sadly, the fit wasn't great on DS. One night in a Softbums diaper left a red mark on his thigh that took weeks to disappear. Once it was gone, I tried the diaper again... another red mark that took weeks to disappear.
Also, I'm just not a fan of AI2 systems. DH and MIL don't "get" that they can reuse the shell, and it's easier to slap a pre-stuffed pocket on a squirmy baby than unsnap the old insert, snap in the new insert, then put the diaper on...
I know some people LOVE Softbums, so definitely try them out! But don't buy a full stash until you know they'll work for you...

I've tried about 10 different systems (that luckily I borrowed from a friend) and nothing ever fit my skinny boy until I found Softbums. My SIL talked me into trying them and they are what convinced me to convert to cloth! She started her premie twins with Softbums at 1 month old. They are now 5.5 months old and she still loves them. She gave me some to borrow and I've been using them on my 20 month old SKINNY boy (23 pounds) for 3 months now and I love them!!! I use BG 3.0s at night only because I was given 3 of them for free and it is easy to stuff the insert and use for bedtime. I can't wait to order some Omni's and try those out. I started my stash when I found them for 20% off on a website and it saved me quite a bit. I have enough to diaper for about 3 days so it's plenty for now, though a few more would be NICE! I am expecting twins so I plan to buy a LOT more. Here are a few sites I've found that carry Softbums for a little less or who occasionally have sales on them......they are more difficult to find I will admit that!
without a sale, this is the cheapest I've found them at pea pods!

Hope that helps!
