Cloth Diapering

cloth pull ups?

I'm looking for cloth pull-ups that are suitable to wear in public when your toddler is still having accidents.

One of my two year olds is super indep. We have several cloth AIOs, but I think she'd do much better with toileting if she could pull it up alone. We've been using the Gerber ones from Target, but they aren't thick enough to actually go out in if she had an accident (which is still super frequent).

Any thoughts? Recommendations? Tricks for turning an AIO into a pull up?

Thanks in advance!

Re: cloth pull ups?

  • we have used super undies for DS. They make and AIO or a pocket that you pull on like real underwear

  • How about doubling up on the Gerber ones when you go out?  I've known some parents at my school to do this.  Also, they sell plastic covers that are pull on.  I think I've seen them at BRU but not positive.

Does she have actual control over it or she just independent and wants to wear the underwear?  If you know she has some control I would do a three day 'deal with accidents' experiment.  Explain that you will only put the underwear on her but she's got to really work at paying attention to her body and speaking up.  And for three days try really hard to not go out too often or for too long and try to find where the bathroom is when you first arrive and point it out to her so that she knows she can go.  Staying home would be ideal but we all know that's not really possible.  Of course, you will have to be armed with loads of extra clothes and underwears (socks and shoes too) but I bet if you did this for 3 days (maybe a week) that she will have fewer accidents and maybe even none.

Just FYI, I was a toddler teacher for 3 year sand have probably potty trained over 50 kids...so I'm not speaking out of nowhere.  Good luck!

  • She does have some control and some times tells us when she's wet. (Especially when we're out). She also hardly ever wets overnight. I'm a special ed teacher and have potty-learned a ton of kids so I know how to, but right now I just don't have the energy.

. . .  My other DD has severe special needs and is about to go in for surgery, so I haven't invested the energy thinking it will unravel when I'm away with her at the hospital and DH has to follow-through. Maybe I'll go ahead and try this instead of doing the whole F & A method that I'd planned on doing with her.

    Thanks for re-inspiring me! :)
