I have a friend on FB.... she posted she went to the zoo with her DD. I said "sounds fun. I'm waiting for the vaccines".....(meaning~ I'm keeping my LOs in...until they have some vaccinations first....)
She posted back.... "I do not vaccinate."
I don't mean to offend anyone....but I can not imagine....not protecting my LOs with vaccines. Do you know anyone who does not vaccinate?
Re: Friend does not vaccinate....
Hey, I'm in NE Ohio, too!
I know of more people who delay, but I just can't fathom not having any.
I also can't imagine thinking that I know more about the subject than world renowned doctors and that my own research could possibly be as extensive at their education and experience, so I go by the CDC chart.

Thanks everyone! I have never heard of someone who did not vaccinate.
Hi Sucrets4... since you are in NE ohio.... thought i'd ask....do you know of any good baby photographers?
I "picked" our wedding photographer from a list online....and... 2 years later....still no wedding album
....so, I don't have the luck just "picking" someone.
I don't know anyone who doesn't vaccinate, I know people who use delayed schedules, but no one that doesn't. This is one of those topics where I just don't think "to each their own" because of the community-wide ramifications that can occur due to people not vaccinating their children.
I wouldn't like it if I found out Olivia was around children who weren't vaccinated, especially until all of her shots are under her belt.
just an fyi, as awful as we all think it is that they aren't vaccinated (I'll never understand it).... I checked with our nurse and doctor (and my husband as well who's a physician) who said it's not our babies that should be worried but the baby that isn't vaccinated. I was completely cleared for the playgroup by them when I called to check. Our kids are fine, it's their kids that should be worried they aren't vaccinated. Then again, mine are 14 months, I don't know if it's different for the newer preemies. Call your doctor and check if yours will be around an unvaccinated child. I think to myself as I'm out and about at your park district activities, playgroups, parks, I never know when I am by an unvaccinated child.
And yes, the autism thing has been disproved but there are some mothers that still believe it. Shocking.

I really disagree. Vaccines aren't 100%, so just because my child got a particularly vaccination doesn't mean he can't get the disease from an unvaccinated one. We all rely on the herd mentality.
The best way to not get something is to never be exposed to it. There are people who can't be vaccinated for medical reason (allergic to ingredients, etc) and they rely on the people around them NOT getting sick so that they don't either.
If my son gets the mumps vaccine, for example, but it turns out he's part of the percentage for whom the vaccine isn't effective, it's important that the children he's exposed to do get the vaccine and don't get sick so they never expose him to it.

I agree about the herd mentality, and I do understand your thought process. But when 2 physicians and a nurse told me our babies are fine being around this boy in playgroup, I didn't think it was something to "disagree" with. They are the medical experts. There are plenty of advice they give I disagree with, but this is above my knowledge. When it comes to medical advice, I need to listen to the experts. Parenting advice, I'll do my own thing. Like they mentioned, we don't know who we come in contact with day to day that isn't vaccinated.
certainly you (you= you, your group of trusted experts) know what is best for your child. I just dont' think that applies to everyone.
I do think once you are taking your child out into large groups, you're pretty much just assuming the risk.
But, for example, we were under quarantine for 11 months. I would have let someone unvaccinated come over.
