15 month old sleep regression??

DD was the BEST sleeper ever! (I actually posted a week or two ago that my friends were telling me she sleeps too much)...I think I jinxed us! The past 2 weeks she won't take a nap...I take that as her transitioning from 2 to 1 nap...ok, that's fine...but she SCREAMS bloody murder when we put her down for the night. She used to go to be soooo easily. She would even wave and say "night night" and blow kisses...I'd shut the door to her room and it was an easy 12-13 hours. We put her down an hour ago (same bedtime routine) and she's still standing up crying (I can see her on the video monitor). I've gone in once, "shhhhh'd" her, rubbed her, etc. And now she's screaming mroe. She ate a good dinner, milk, no fever, nothing. She's had all 4 molars since 12-13 months, but she is getting her canines in, but does NOT seem to be bothered by them. The only other thing I can think of is that we switched daycares about 3 weeks ago. She cries every morning when I drop her off, but they told me she's fine after I leave. I've googled it and it seems that there is a 15-16 month sleep regression. Just wanted to see if anyone has been through it and any advice. Thanks :)

Re: 15 month old sleep regression??

  • I don't really buy all that sleep regression stuff. Sleep is not linear. As adults we have good nights and bad nights and children are no different.

Be consistent with your evenings and bedtime routine and she'll get back to her norm...then once she's back to normal for a couple weeks it will happen again. :)

  • We are going through the same thing.  Night #2 of bloody murder screaming.  About an hour later we are able to put her down with no problem.  I am wondering if we should move her bedtime back a little.  It is very frustrating.

  • My two guesses are separation anxiety or the teeth are bothering her.  Because it's been an hour I would give her Tylenol or Motrin just in case, give her a good rocking to calm her, and try again.

  • DD has had some very rough nights over the past month. I'm attributing it to separation anxiety, teething, and changing routines (I went back to work part0time after having the summer off, and although she was still in daycare once/week, now she's there twice and the days are longer). I also have found that if she's overtired, it really affects her sleep.

She started decreasing her naps to one morning/early afternoon nap and she now has to go to bed 30 minutes earlier than she used to. That seems to have helped us.
