High-Risk Pregnancy

Ladies on Lovenox...

Hi Ladies,

I was hoping someone could help put my mind at ease (because the worst thing one can do is google information and read everything opposite of what you were hoping)

This is my 3rd pregnancy (2nd was a miscarriage), and I am scheduled to see my Dr. on Nov. 17th for my first visit.  I was on lovenox for most of my first pregnancy, and then switched to heparin towards the end.  This was almost 5 years ago... and I can't remember how early they had me starting the shots.

I am currently seeing a new dr. because since having my son, my dr. moved out of state.  Needless to say, I am nervous and scared about seeing someone new.  I'm trying to get my old file to give to the new dr. to make sure all bases are covered but I was hoping someone here could share their own experiences so I can see what's "normal".

How soon did you start the lovenox?  Are you seeing a high risk dr?

Also, I've been feeling some dull cramping with only a little spotting yesterday... is this normal?  I can't believe how much I've forgotten since having my son!! Is slight lower back pain normal?  The nurses at the dr's office tell me not to worry but I can't shake this nagging feeling that something isn't right or that I'm missing something.

THank you in advance ladies... I really appreciate the help!

  • I started the Lovenox as soon as we got the BFP and they checked my quant to make sure the numbers were rising.  I would call your DR about the cramping and spotting.  I did have a lot of cramping during my first tri but no spotting...had I had both I would have been freaking out only bc I have had 3 previous m/c.  I think the sooner you can get on the Lovenox the better...all of my m/c happened at 8 weeks or earlier so my body seemed to reject very quickly.  GL!
  • Thank you ladies! I called the dr as soon as they opened this morning and got my appointment moved up to next week.  The spotting has stopped (and so has my freaking out, for now) and the cramps too.  Irrational as it sounds, I keep taking pregnancy tests just to make sure.  They keep coming up pregnant so I feel better.  Fingers crossed that I get to hold on to this blessing.

With the miscarriage last time I had the spotting which turned to full on period after a day and then the pregnancy tests were coming up negative right away.

I appreciate the answers! Good luck to each of you too! :)

  • I started lovenox right away too. I also had some cramping and spotting around 8 weeks and I freaked out and went to the ER. An u/s showed I had a little bleeding behind my placenta (a subcorianic hemorrhage) which is pretty common. I decided to put myself on the couch for the next few days just to be sure, and things have been fine since.

My daughter was my first pregnancy and it went perfectly, but it was 3 years ago and I've forgotten a lot too. I do remember the cramping and spotting this my 2 miscarriages so I freak out at every little thing. That being said, I had a good amount of cramping at the beginning of my 2nd tri and everything is perfectly fine, so I guess it's normal.

    Good luck

  • We talked with the OB and Hematologist first, and they both advised me to go on lovenox before even TTC--but I've been on Warfarin(Coumadin) for the past 3-4 years due to multiple counts of DVT, so in my case it was at least as much just switching to something safer for a fetus before letting one set up camp as it was watching out for potential risk post-conception.

  • I started taking Lovenox the day I got my BFP which was 3 days before my period was due (morning sickness woke me up).  I've been on it with varying dosages this entire time and will switch to Heparin at 36 weeks.

I would call the OB to get in as soon as you can if for no other reason than piece of mind.
