We're having a group of our friends over next weekend (11 adults including myself and dh). Typically people bring an app or dessert to share and they're own beverage of choice and the hosts provide something a little more substantial to eat and n/a beverages.
So far I think we might have chili and apple cider (I'll have something to spike it and the makings for caramel apple martinis). There is a pepperoni pizza dip I want to try and Dh found a cute way to make Halloween themed deviled eggs so we might do that, too. One couple is planning to make wings.
I was also thinking of trying a pumpkin cheesecake but someone else is bringing pumpkin bars and I don't know if that might be too much pumpkin. I have made Nikki's red velvet cheesecake before but I can't really figure out a good way to decorate it - maybe try to do a spiderweb on the top?
We don't have people over that often (especially not this many) and I want to make sure everyone has a good time.
What do you think? Anything you think I'm missing or suggestions of what else to have?
Re: need ideas for halloween party
"It's a child, not a cheeto" Thanks mmariluh!
"Ew. I've read all of two posts from you, and you stink like rotting garbage."
Hi, we actually just had a Halloween party this past weekend, we had like double the ppl you had and we had a keg too. But I made the Halloween funfetti cupcakes, we had bought some halloween themed gummies we had out, I had a plastic pumpkin filled with assorted mini candies (aka the ones you buy to hand out to kids) DH made some cheese/salsa dip, I had some friends bring a veggie platter, some other friends bring a sasuage and cheese platter, other ppl brought chips (we had a lot of chips) cookies, and some pumpkin bread.
Not sure if that is what you are looking for, but hope it helps. you could try to make jello jigglers and use halloween shaped cookie cutters to cut them out, I tried this last yr but it didn't work for me.
If you're afraid of too much pumpkin, you could always go apple. Tons of dessert-y recipes out there for that.
And I made a fluffy apple dip this weekend which was quick as I needed something very last minute.
Taste of Home actually has a ton of Halloween ideas if you want to take a quick browse - from snacks, to sides, to main dishes and desserts. They actually have a bloodshot eyeballs deviled eggs which I remember seeing after you mentioned them above.
If you do go with a spider-web cake, you could always buy little black plastic spiders (I've used the rings before) to push into the cake/web at varoius places. I've done that with cupcakes but should work with a cake, too.
I love Halloween - have fun!

Sounds like you have everything covered actually. I think chili is a great main course, make sure you get all the toppings people like (cheese, sour cream, ect).
I think the idea of the cheese cake with the spider wed is cute. Definitely get some spider rings in and push them into the cake. That would be super cute.

Thanks for the ideas I wouldn't have thought of the spiders for the cheesecake!
I'm stopping sometime this week for decorations and I'll have to get some candy corn.... to share, of course.
