Cloth Diapering

When LO starts solids...

DD just started on solids, and her poops are starting to reflect that.  They're still not quite solid, so what do I do before putting the diapers in the washing machine?  Do I just scrape off as much as I can (with a wipe?) and toss the smeared diaper in the wet bag?  Or do I have to dunk it and scrub it in the toilet?  (FWIW, the poops are like sticky peanut butter)

  • we are in the same boat!  we started solids a week ago and the diapers are starting to get nasty :)  right now i'm using a plastic knife to scrape off the poop into the toilet, but if it's a looser poop i swish it in a bucket of water and dump that water down the toilet bowl.

we have a diaper sprayer on order and i am assuming that will solve the issue.

  • I have a spatula that I leave in the toilet brush holder. Works great. I can't bring myself to dunk and swish.

  • I haven't been there yet, but I have heard that stage is the worst!  I plan to use the flushable liners.

We keep two separate diaper pails anyway - one for cloth dipes, the other for disposable wipes and the nightly disposable diaper.  I'll just toss the liners in with the disposable stuff.

  • I'm also a spatula user. I'm not going to lie. It kind of sucks. But it is the best option I've come up with. I have to scrap right after I change him. Otherwise they kind of congeal and it's impossible to get off.
