4 cm dilated!!!

Hi Ladies,

 At my doc appt last wed I was pleasantly surprised to hear that I was 4cm dilated and 70% effaced! This is my fist baby so i hear it's pretty unusual since I was only 36.5 weeks at the time. Since then, I've been feeling pretty crappy, swollen all over the place, heat burn, exhousted, back pain, some contractions etc... I've heard all kinds of speculation, most people are amazed I'm not at the hospital yet delivering my baby. What's your experience with this type of thing? Any advice? Any thought on when I may deliver? I'm just sooooo ready!

    I was 1 cm every week, then went into labor right at my due date.  I felt crappy though the last few weeks of pregnancy which I think is pretty much par for the course.  Hopefully you get to meet your LO soon!

    I was 5 cm dialated and 80% effaced at 35 weeks with my first child. I stayed that way for 7 days before my water broke and I went into labor. Other than feeling like she would fall out at any moment, I really didn't feel too bad during that time.

    You might want to pack your bag if you haven't already. I would also suggest going to the hospital as soon as your water breaks. I went from 5-10 cm really fast and didn't have time for the epidural.

    OMG! That's my biggest fear! I'm definitely a big believer in the epidural - don't want to miss it. I have my bag packed and ready to go, just wish the water would break while i'm still at home - not at work :(

    Every single person is different.  You could remain 4cm and 70% and still go past your due date.  I have a couple friends who's water broke and both of them had to be induced because they weren't progressing quickly enough.  If your water breaks, definitely call the doctor.  They may want you to stay at home for a while if you aren't contracting.

    My dad had a patient who was 5 cm dialated for 3 weeks.  You just never know what your body is going to do.  Sounds like things are moving though which hopefully makes for an easier delivery either way.  Good luck!

    The first time I didn't dilate until I was in labor.  The second time I was 100% effaced and 4 cm dilated for over two weeks and was eventually induced.  Like the others said, you just never know!  Best of luck!

    Hope it happens for you soon!  I walked around 3cm dilated and 100% effaced for 2.5 weeks before being induced.

    Yup with my first baby.  My OB thought for sure that I would have Carter 4th of July weekend.  He didn't show up until I was induced on 7/16.  They said  I would have probably been in later that day if I hadn't been induced, but that was 2.5 weeks after they said I was 3cm and fully effaced.  I even tried every method known to man to induce labor and nothing happened.

    Here's to hoping you have better luck than I did!
