2nd Trimester

Do you eat smoked salmon?

I'm craving lox. I eat pretty much everything in pregnancy (cheese, lunchmeat, sushi etc) but I've not had smoked salmon yet. Wdyt?
"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut

Re: Do you eat smoked salmon?

  • Yes absolutely eat it. Pedi told me that they're finding that women who eat a lot of low mercury fish during 2nd and 3rd trimester impact their LOs cognitively more so than breastmilk or foods with DHA. She filled me in since I'm pregnant with LO2.

    Eat away!

  • it's probably safer than sushi!!!!

I ate some once accidentally and nearly lost it!!!  -

  • No, but only because I don't like the flavor of anything smoked. I eat regular salmon though.

  • I do. My local sushi place makes a great roll w/ smoked salmon and avacado. Yum!
  • Yup, I've had lox and bagels many times while pregnant.

  • No, but I'm probably just being overprotective. :)

  • I have been craving lox and bagels with onions like nobody's business.  I know I've seen it on a things to avoid list...but I am tempted, too.

  • Had it for breakfast this morning, as a matter of fact.

  • Since I ate it before, I don't see any problem eating it now.

BTW, instead of cream cheese, I like to spread an avocado on toasted bread and then put capers and chopped garlic with the salmon. Yummy!!

Minus the garlic, and I need a drool icon. That sounds amazing!

  • It's on the to avoid list, so I'm not sure. I'm dying for some good salmon bagel, but will wait till I'm done. I think since this is my first I'll be more protective and by the time i have my second eat everything!
  • I asked my doctor last month, and she said it was fine to eat smoked salmon. I was relieved--Yom Kippur was that week, and even though I wasn't fasting, bagels and lox are a huge part of my "break fast" tradition!
  • I live in Alaska and when I first got pregnant they gave me a Alaska Seafood chart that shows how much fish you 'should/could' eat a week. Apparently salmon is not a concern   because it has zero points on their chart.

I don't know about the smoking though. But I eat it... it's like candy at our house. I have to hide it from my BF if I want to have any left... although that hasn't been as big of an issue since I've been pregnant- he's good at leaving yummy things alone. lol
