Gianna has her first cold.....

It seems...runny nose, sneezing a lot and sounds like a pig at night lol....But overall very happy which is great....My question what can I give her at night? I am not sure what things I can do for a 6 month old?? So of course I turn to you ladies.....

Isn't it funny how we turn to each other before a Dr most of the time lol....

Any advice for her age would be great! I do have a warm mist vaporizer that says I use it with Vicks vapo steam, but I am not sure if at her age I can.....

Re: Gianna has her first cold.....

  • When Reese had a cold, her nose was stuffy, not runny, so I'm not sure if the same things would help. Our pedi told us to use a cold mist humidifier, and use "Little Noses" saline solution to break up the snot to make it easier to suck out. We did that right before each feeding so that she could breathe easier when she was eating & so that the saline solution would run down the back of her throat to clear up the congestion there. I hope G feels better soon!
  • I have used a humidifier and the saline spray as well. I put eucalyptus oil in the humidifier water which is one of the ingredients in vicks vapo rub. There is also a vicks baby rub which I believe you can put on them after 4 months, but we haven't tried it. We have sone prescription cold medicine that I give her if her congestion seems to make it hard for her to sleep at night.

  • Sorry G is not feeling good, when Landon was sick we used a humidifier and little noses saline spray. Also try to give her a bath and steam up the bathroom that seemed to help him with his stuffy nose.

  • Thanks girls..I got some of the saline drops and Johnsons Vapor Bath so hopefully that does the trick.....
  • Just within the last couple of months Caroline has had a nonstop runny nose and off and on congestion.  Let us know if this works for you, I'll have to try it if it does.
  • K has had a runny nose for 15 days now.  So we had to go to the doc to make sure that it wasn't turning into something bad.  The doc told us to limit the suctioning.  It inflames the nasal cavity which makes it more uncomfortable for baby and takes longer to heal.  So use the humidifier, turn it on a couple hours before bed and keep the door shut.  Also the little noses she said is really great.
