Cloth Diapering

GroVia (aka GroBaby)

I'm thinking about trying out GroVia (GroBaby) AI2 diapers.  Does anyone have any experience with them?  What are your thoughts?

Re: GroVia (aka GroBaby)

  • I have a few Grobaby diapers and am not really a fan.  The main problem we have is that DD1 poops a lot and the poop always gets on the cover.  The shells don't wipe clean, either, so when DD saturates a soaker, it gets on the cover, which then starts to stink.  Unless I change the diaper after an hour, the shell is always too stinky to reuse, which sort of defeats the purpose of the AI2 system, IMO.

That said, the Grovia soakers are backed with PUL, so I don't think they have the stinky pee problem.  I think I also read that they contain poo better than the Grobaby soakers.

One other thing to consider is that the rise is pretty short on these diapers.

  • I also agree. My LO's poops are like pudding and gets all over the diaper. I have a couple that are snaps and a few with velcro closures. The velcro I absolutely do not like because it seems to open up in the wash and then stick to the liner. Also, she's learned to pull on the tab and open the diaper so occasionally I find the diaper half on and half off. lol The diapers I really like are the Flip covers. If she just pees, I can just wipe the inside of the cover down and put in another insert and I'm good to go. However, if it's poop, I have to go by how much of a mess it is. If it's like an explosion of it and its all over, I usually just wipe it down and put it in the hamper and use a new cover. If it's a little bit and can be easily cleaned up, I can use it again. I like these because I can have a few covers and lots of inserts which was more wallet friendly than the other types of diapers. Also with these covers I can also use prefolds and disposables. When traveling out of town we usually go with the disposables since the opportunity to do laundry is limited.

Also, we wanted a diaper that could be used the longest. We originally used thirsties and bumgenius pocket diapers but she grew out of the small size so quickly (in the thirsties). It was literally a month after we bought them and barely used them at the time. This also shown me that this type of diaper wasn't right for us and that the covers were much better.

I've never tried Grobaby, but our Grovia's have a pretty high rise and we never get poo on the cover. Sometimes the cover gets a little wet on the edges, but if you let it air dry between changes, it doesn't smell and you can reuse it. I love them, they are my fav diapers so far.

  • We use grobaby (make up half our stash) and love them.  We almost always can use the cover for 2-3 wet diapers with no wetness or smell.  I would say about half of the time, poop gets on the cover, but we always wash a cover after a poop anyway.  I have 20 soakers and 10 covers and it works out about perfect.

    I definitely recommend them.
