Baby Names

does this work?

My last name begins with an S.  Let's pretend it's Simpson.  DH and I had fixed on Angus Simpson pretty early - calling the little one Gus.  Here's my worry.  When you say "Gus Simpson" does it sound like "Gu Simpson"?  Is there enough differentiation?  My name is Lis Simpson and I always feel like I'm saying Li Simpson.  Blarg - am I over thinking this?

Re: does this work?

  • Well I absolutely LOVE Gus, so I'm going to say that yes, you are overthinking it, and it sounds fine. Wink

Seriously though, I don't think it is that big of a deal. It isn't like people will be calling him by his first and last name daily or anything.

  • While I dislike the name Angus, I don't think it would sound like Gu Simpson.  I wouldn't worry about it if I was you.

  • Sorry, but I do think it sounds like "Gus Impson" when I say it. Unless I pause between the names, in which case it sounds akward. Sad
  • I'm the opposite of eagle, I pause between names unless I'm yelling at the kids, so I don't see them running together really.

  • I'm sorry but I really dislike the name Angus. It's a popular breed of cattle in my state :(

  • It does run together. Sorry. My last name starts with S and we've crossed off all names that end in S. It's frustrating.
