mixing white and espresso?

Hello!  I have purchased an espresso finish crib and dresser as well as a chocolate brown chair.  We are painting the nursery a teal/blue color (here is a link to our bedding  https://www2.jcpenney.com/jcp/X6.aspx?GrpTyp=PRD&ItemID=1332873&Ntt=paisley+splash&hdnOnGo=true&Ne=840+4+877+878+5+961+6+29+3+598+11+15+12+506+10+23+585+596+1031+8+18+904+903+969+949+833&submit search.y=0&SearchString=paisley+splash&submit search.x=0&N=4294959029&Nao=0&SO=0&PSO=0&CmCatId=searchresultsthe paint is similar to the paint in the picture).

I am worried things my look a little dark so i was going to put the wall art in white frames and do a white tree branch decal on the wall.  Do you think its okay to mix the white with espresso or should i still to dark brown frames?  Any other suggestions?

Re: mixing white and espresso?

  • We have all dark espresso furniture and we have lighter accents on the wall.  We painted the wall a pale sage green, put up a wall paper border and a white chair rail.  The dark furniture looks great with the white accents of the chair rail.  We will have white sheers hanging and a lighter valance as well.  I'm thinking we may do lighter baskets for storage in the changing table.

I think you are okay to pair the dark with the white.  So far, it's looking great in our nursery!

  • I have a dark crib and dresser with white accents (the side table, mirror, coat rack, vases, trim). It looks great! I didn't want everything to be too drak/too light/too matchy-matchy. It's impossible to make an entire room either dark wood or white. You'll drive yourself nuts if you try to match EVERYTHING.

  • Yes, we have espresso furniture and wondered the same thing, but have white trim and added a white window treatment... it looks great!
  • I am doing an espresso crib and off white dressers, etc.  I didn't want all white and didn't want all dark so I thought this was the best solution.  I don't like everything to be matchy anyway so I am hoping this works well together.  I was in a baby store and saw an espresso set next to another white set so I could see furniture together and I think it worked well.

  • I actually prefer to mix finishes-- I have an espresso crib, dresser and chair, with a white desk and side table and a blue bookshelf.

  • We have mixed and I love it!  Crib and shelf are espresso.  Dresser and nightstand are white.  Mixed accessories on the walls.  I think it looks great together!
