Since some of you loved kittengate. Here's a weird story to entertain you.
We have 3 cats. 2 of them are indoor-outdoor cats. We noticed a cat hanging around our yard but we moved in recently and just figured it was a neighbor's cat. Well, we were going to dinner one night this week and saw a "missing cat" ad matching the cat in our yard. I called the owner to tell her we'd seen a cat that looked like hers and I suspected it was eating food from our cat's dish. Last night I was working late at home and the doorbell rings. And rings again. I ignored it thinking it was a neighbor (people like to drop-in to say "hi"). Then it rings again. It's cat lady. Crazy cat lady, with a picture of her cat. She told me she'd been looking around our yard for her cat, begged me for more info, I told her I hadn't seen the cat in several days which is why I didn't call her back. She proceeds to ask if she can set up "bait traps" in our yard. WTF? Really? I'm seriously considering keeping my cats indoors for a few days so she doesn't take one for ransom!
Re: Kittengate Part Deuce
Unless you're leaving out some serious "crazy" behavior, I see nothing wrong with a concerned pet owner coming by and asking about the cat. You called her and said you suspected the cat had been near your house, why is it so odd she stopped by to look for it? I'm sure the picture was just to confirm, or possibly ask your neighbors if they'd seen the cat too.
As for the bait traps, well, it's a way to capture the cat and get it home if you aren't able (or willing) to capture it for her. Would you rather she camp out in your yard? I don't think she wants one of your cats "for ransom". Do you know how incredibly stupid that sounds? If you're worried about your cats they shouldn't be outside anyway. There are far worse elements out there than a lady who genuinely sounds worried about her pet.

No kidding. Why would you call her if you didn't expect her to come looking for her pet?
So you called a random stranger to tell her you spotted her cat and you gave her your home address?
Why are you surprised she stopped by to look for the cat? Isn't that why she put up posters and you called when you saw the posters?
