I'm considering making an appointment with a lactation consultant. I've looked at a few websites for consultants in my area and rather then quoting a price, they "remind" you that formula feeding can cost $1400 - $2700/year! I can only imagine how much a consultation will cost! Did your insurance cover any of the visit?

free through my hospital. You call make an appt (and see 1 of 3 ladies - whoever is working that day). I do have to go to the hospital but she was very helpful. I had lots of problems and saw her 4 or 5 times - including pumping in front of her to see what size of flanges i needed for my pump. I can go as many times as i need to. And they write up a report and send it to the peds office.
Then once a wk they have a BF support group with one of the LC. I can do weekly weight check, and a weighed feeding. and the LC can answer quick questions. (Like how much should baby eat for X wieght, how often, how much should he/she gain/wk, i have a lump/clogged duct what do i do...)
And my insurance would have covered 1 LC visit.
