Shocked...

So..my friend sent me a text asking me if I had plans tomorrow night. This is how the convo went:

Her: Hey girl! How are you?

Me: Hey! I am good. What's up?

Her: I need a favor:

Me: What do you need?

Her: Are you busy tomorrow night?

Me: Not sure,why?

Her: I wanted to know if you could watch my nephew for an hour. I will pay you. Me and a bunch of people  want to go to a haunted trail. I won't be gone but an hour.

Me: I am not sure I feel ok with that. He does not know me and I don't know him or his mother.

Her: oh ok...well don't worry about it.

Me: Maybe I am just being a mom but if someone was watching DD and then asked someone I don't know to watch her so they could go out, I would be super pissed. So I don't think it is a good idea since I don't really know your sister.

Her: oh ok.

Am I missing something here? She is mad at me now but I don't care. This just does not feel right.

Re: Shocked...

  • I agree with you 100%. If my sister was watching my daughter and then asked one of her friends who I didnt know to watch her so she could go out, I would be super pissed.

  • I'm glad you said something. It was super irresponsible of her to try and pawn off her nephew on a stranger (to him). I hope she got the hint and doesn't try to pawn him off on someone else.
  • I don' think you're missing anything. I would never watch someone's kid that I didn't know, and didn't know their mother..AND their mother didn't know I was watching them. Oh, and be sure you never ask her to babysit lol she might pawn your kid off on someone else. Either she doesn't go to the haunted trail or she tells her family member that she isn't free, not your problem.

  • I agree with you.  If she had plans she should not have committed to watching her nephew.  Or is she already made the commitment to watch him she should not have even THOUGHT about going out that night.  Plus, I think we all know going to a haunted trail with some friends would be more than an hour.  You have drive time, time to wait in line, time to chit chat etc.
  • I'm totally with you 100%

This.  It's not that I would mind watching a little kid, but if I was that kid's mom, I'd be pissed.

  • I think you are right for not watching LO, however with her not being a mom, I would imagine she never gave a thought to why it is weird to ask a friend to watch her nephew.  She obviously trusts you, and probably didn't think it was a big deal.

Exactly. I am just shocked that she would even ask me this.

And trust me, I would never ask her to watch DD, even before this happened. geesh.

  • I'd watch a friends child if I didn't know them, but only if the parent asked me.  I'd never fill in for a babysitter without the parents knowledge, especially if I didn't know the child or parent.  Bad Aunt!

Right. That is what I said to her. I would not mind watching him, but I think it is super wrong of her to ask someone else to watch him so she can go out somewhere.
