GD - Ketone Testing Question

Ok ladies, this is a possibly stupid question about checking my ketones.

I know you're supposed to test with your "first morning urine" but what if, like most pregnant ladies, you have to get up in the middle of the night to pee?

I've noticed that my ketones seem to be higher on the mornings where I've slept all the way through the night. It could be just a coincidence but I'm worried my readings are inaccurate if I'm getting up in the middle of the night.

Has anyone run into this issue? What did your doctor or nutritionist say?

Re: GD - Ketone Testing Question

  • Mine said first pee when you're up for the day- NOT middle of the night pees! I sleep through anyways - very very rare I pee in the middle of the night! Weird.

  • I asked my nutritionist this question last week.  She said to wait to test until you wake up for the day.
  • I had this same question for my nutritionist and we agreed that It was safe to check it after 3am.  So anytime after 3 when I wake up I check it because before I was pg I would get up in the middle of the night to pee.  So far it is working.  I also try to stop drinking anything after 9:30pm and go one last time before bed, it seams to help.  But if your sleeping through the night and getting a high reading for 3 days straight I would call up your nurtitionist and ask becasue sleeping through the night should give you an accurate reading with your first morning urine.
  • Thanks for the info! :-)
