Sleeping on your back/tummy?

I know that as we get further along, we aren't supposed to sleep on our backs.  Do you know when that starts?  I wake up throughout the night in all different positions...sometimes on my back and other times on my stomach.  Has anyone's dr. mentioned anything about this?

  • You'll know when it's time to flip to your side. Your body makes it clear that back sleeping will be a thing of the past.

  • Just sleep however you can.  Your body will let you know when it is time to change positions!  :)

  • The nurse told me my stomach was ok as long as it was comfortable.  I went to a baby class last night at the hospital, and they suggested not laying straight on your back after 4 months.  She said if you prop your hips up and are on your back it is fine.

  • As far as the stomach goes, my OB said I will know when I have to stop sleeping on my stomach as it will become uncomfortable.  Now, the back is another story.  She told me 18 weeks.

  • If you lay straight on your back, you cut off blood flow to your lower body because the pressure of the babies is on your aorta.  That is why my dr said if you prop your hips up you can still have good blood flow.

  • I can NOT sleep on my back so that is a good thing.  I am a tummy sleeper, but also sleep on my sides.  So I guess it won't be too much of an adjustment.

  • I am a back sleeper. A pregnancy pillow really helps for getting comfy on your side.
