Small Nursery

Anyone else working with a really small nursery? The room we will be using is maybe 12 x 10. I know it could never fit a double sized bed or even a twin. It is a fine size for a nursery but that's about it.

 

Ideally, I would like to fit a crib, chair and dresser. I have a feeling a glider/rocker would be tight though especially for the chair to actually rock. I don't know if an ottoman would even fit .

We're going to order one that we like and if it doesn't fit we'll put it in what is now our guest room but will become a playroom.

 I'd love to see picture or crib recommendations for ra small nursery.

We have a pretty small nursery and I was surprised at everything that we will be able to fit. We fit an armoire on one wall, the changing table on another wall, the crib on the third wall and then the gilder/ottomon in the corner. I found it really helpful to use newspapers in the dimensions of the furniture to lay things out prior to purchasing.

our nursery is that size and we have 2 cribs (IKEA gulliver), 1 65 in dresser, a rocking chair, and a bookcase.  I HATE overstuffed rooms- and I don't think our nursery is overstuffed.

I think a lot depends on the layout of the room- where is the window(s), closet, and doorway in relation to each other.

I really like the round cribs, but I am not sure how much special matresses and sheets will run you.

I have seen some really small cribs at Buy Buy Baby or they have the crib with the changing table attacehd. I found that those are a bit smaller and will detach later once you don't need it. If it fits you can put the dresser in the closet to save room. We have enough space in the room but we are going to put it in the closet to give us more space.

I'm kind of in the same boat. We have a 3 bedroom house, but 1 room is rented out by a friend of ours and the 3rd room is a guest room. We still want to have a bed for when people visit so we're going to only put a crib in LO's room and leave the bed in there for now. We made plenty of storage space in the closet for her clothes and stuff like that and we're not getting a changing table because I don't really think we need one. She's going to be sleeping in our room for the first few months anyway, so we don't even really need a crib, but I want to have one for peace of mind. We're going to have a pack 'n play set up downstairs for naps and it also has a changing table. Plus, we'll have a bassinet in our room all set up with everything we need at night.

I'm just decorating LO's room/ guest room with a few things that make it look cute for now. If we don't like the set-up once she comes we can always change it.

Our nursery is 7'-9" x 7'-9" and we have a 52" long crib, small (36" wide) 3-drawer dresser, a glider with ottoman, a standing lamp, and a hamper and trash can.  You'll be completely fine with the size room you have.  Luckily, babies don't really need that much space.  Our bigger challenge was reorganizing our closets and cabinets so that we had enough storage space outside the nursery, since our nursery doesn't have a closet.  One big help was buying a crib with a large drawer underneath it, which is where we keep all of our bedding.  We have the Mercer crib by Babyletto, which is a full-size crib, but the sides are straight and relatively thin, so it doesn't take up a lot of extra room.

Our nursery is in a corner of our bedroom and is essentially 7 x 10. We only have three walls to work with. We have a combo unit, the crib, a glider, ottoman and side table in there. It's fine, not overstuffed at all.

 

Our second bedroom (currently our office) is about 12 x 10 and we'd have plenty of room for everthing you want. 

One thing we did was buy a very clean-lined crib. No extra curves or anything like that -- it visually takes up less space.

Our nursery is about 7' x 9'.  We got the Caden Small Spaces Crib avail online at pottery barn.  It has drawers underneath.  Our changing table/dresser is from target and is on the small side too.  We went with the Cohen glider by Oilo which was probably one of the less bulky gliders out there.  Hopefully the nursery will be finished this weekend and I'll be able to post pics.

our nursery is 9.5x11. we will have a regular size crib, recliner, large changing table (40 in wide) and a chest dresser. babysdreamfurniture.com has a room planner anyone can use that you put in the dimensions of your room and then a list of furniture and accessories that you can play around with. This helped me to know what i can do and where to put stuff. Also this room is currently my daughters room, she has a full size bed in it, a large combo dresser with a hutch and a toy box.

Our spare bedroom (where the nursery will someday be) is only 10x10. We currently have a small computer work station, a tall dresser AND a Queen sized bed in there, and while it's cramped, it all fits with sufficient room to maneuver.

I have already mapped out how we will fit everything for a nursery, and we will be able to fit a full sized crib, upholstered rocker with side table, and a combo dresser/changing table (and even a toy box or small book case)

12x12 isn't as small as you might think...

What I did to make sure everything would fit was used graphing paper (each square equaled 1 sqft.), then I cut out other squares (using the graph paper) based on the size of the furiture. I liked this better than the on-line room planners because you could eaisly move the furniture around on the paper.

You may only be able to have 1 dresser, but otherwise, I am sure you can make it work.

Our nursery is the same size. I have a full size crib, dresser, changing table, full size rocker and nigh stand. I guess it depends on windows and door ways in your room, but there is probably more space than you think.

I uploaded a picture of our nursery area.

It's about 10 x 7. It's at the end of our bedroom, so we have one ten foot wall and two 7 foot walls. On the right that trash can is right where the bedroom door opens, so we really only have about 4 feet of space there if we want to open the door all the way. It's a little crowded, but really there's plenty of room to move around and if it was an actual room it would easily be more spread out and we'd have room for even more stuff. You can see just the edge of our bed (and the dog's stairs) at the bottom of the photo.

Our nursery is the same size. We currently have the crib, dresser/changer and a small bookcase in the room. There is plenty of space. We are picking up a rocker/glider from a friend this weekend. Not sure how the room will fit the rocker until we get it. I can post pics once it is all in place.

We have a small nursery but maximized space with the mini crib  We probably could have fit a full size crib in but the room would have litterally fit just the crib and maybe a dresser.  We are also pressed for closet space and needed lots of drawers so we have both a dresser/changing pad and chest of drawers, the mini crib, a rocking chair (repurposed office chair) and DSs honkin swing.  We started with the swing in the Living room but since it is less for play and more to soothe and ocassionally to sleep we moved it to the bedroom.

We have the Davinci Emily mini crib and love it.  We got our bedding from Amazon.com and Carousel Designs.  I also snagged a bedding set on clearance at BRU so I actually haven't had problems finding bedding to fit.  The bed converts to a twin and that shoud fit just fine in the room once we get rid of the swing.  Sorry that I don't have pictures but I can send you links because most of the the stuff I purchased was online.

Here is our plan for our nursery, which is 10x11.

Our furniture is the Munire Lexington convertible crib and 6 drawer dresser with hutch. The glider is by Little Castle.

Our nursery is 8x10 and we're putting in just enough furniture for the baby's needs- eventually we hope to convert the tiny room into a big main bathroom and the current main bath into an ensuite (like you said even a twin bed would be tight).

Our nursery is pretty small too.  We ended up not being able to put a chair/glider in the room, but we put one in our living room.

There are pictures of DD #1's nursery in my bio.  We are moving her into the guest room after Christmas and re-doing the nursery for this baby since she is keeping her furniture and everything.

My nursery is 88 sq ft and have a full sized crib, dresser, glider and ottoman and small nightstand next to the glider.  It's cozy, not cramped.  We did try several different furniture arrangements until finding one that works.  If you don't have room for a bookshelf something like this may be useful too.  Also, we got some storage bins for under the crib for things baby doesn't need now, but will use when she's older, like larger clothes and toys.

One thing I found to be helpful is not pushing all the furniture tightly into corners so we could fit more.  That just seemed to make the room feel smaller.

Decorating small rooms can be really fun and you don't have to get tons of stuff to make it feel "finished."  Good luck!

I think my nursery is 11x12. We fit 2 cribs, a recliner (I have to pull it away from the wall to actually recline, but hey), and a changer/dresser combo. We have a book bin hanging on the wall and a few shelves over the dresser. Everythign else goes in the closet.

I forget the exact dimensions, but our nursery is very small, too.  It helps that we don't have to work around any windows, but there is one outside door to a balcony.  We fit a full size crib, but I also recommend getting one with a drawer underneath for crib sheets, etc.  There's no closet, so we're using a low dresser as a changing table which really helps save space and maximize storage.

Ours is pretty small.  We have a crib on one wall, a long Hemnes Ikea dresser doubling as a changing table on another, and the glider will be in the corner with a small bookshelf next to it.  I haven't finished so no pics to post yet, but I think if you double up (like changing table on top of a dresser) and make good use of closet space (we will store toys in the closet in a plastic tub on the floor) it is very doable.

DD's nursery is 9 x 11.  We have her crib, dresser, glider and side table.   When we were shopping for furniture I would take measurments and then I would tape off the area in the room to see how big it would be in the space.  I did not want a crowded space.  I think it all works well, I have pics in my bio.

That is not a tiny room. I would say from all of my houses I have lived in and rented since my childhood that is actually a fairly average sized room. Master bedrooms are usually bigger, but that's not a freaking shoebox. Our master and spare are 12x15 and I purposely chose the third bedroom that is 10x12 specifically for the nursery because I knew it would be plenty big. It was just a spare "nothing" room since we moved in and has a daybed and a dresser and looks completely empty. There is no way that a crib, chair, dresser, and glider will be crammed in there. Maybe it's your window/door configuration or something, but that's what we will have in ours and it will fit fine. Our bedroom as young children was 12x15 and easily fit two twin canopy beds, a large dresser and two nightstands.

Thank you for saying that is not very small. To the original poster unless you are estimate is completely inaccurate you should have no problem fitting it into that size. My MASTER bedroom is only 10X10 feet and has two bureaus and a queen sized bed and this is without us being able to use a whole wall due to there being three doors for the room.

I'm sorry 12 x 10 was a guestimate. We measured today and it 11 X 7.

There is a window on one of the 7ft wall and a door on the other. One of the 11ft walls has the closet so that takes up about 3 ft.

I'm thinking we'll do the IKEA gulliver on the longer wall with a chair next to it. Then on the 7ft wall a dresser/changer and book shelf.

The room I lived in until I moved out to go to college was a 10x11, I had a twin sized bed, dressers, desk and a hutch with a TV on it... I never felt cramped or crowded... I think it's all about oragnization and room layout.
