Diet on Bed Rest?

Hi ladies!

Since I am high risk, I am basically on bed rest.  Because my DH is deployed, I am 'allowed' to grab groceries occasionally and make absolutely necessary errand runs.  But, for the most part, I am to take it as easy as possible.  I have noticed that over the past 2 weeks I have gained 5 pounds and its freaking me out a little bit.  Did any of you ladies tweak your diet or consume less calories in your 3rd trimester due to bed rest?  I've just worked so hard to try and limit cravings and unneccessary calories that I dont want to blow up like a balloon in the next 3 weeks.  But, obviously, I want DD to  be getting what she needs as well.  Any input would help! TIA!

Re: Diet on Bed Rest?

  • I'm not in my third tri - but am on bed rest. I try to be careful to eat only when I'm hungry - not just out of bordom.

I also asked my DH to get snacks for me to munch on through the day, because I'm actually hungry all the time now. But stuff I like and don't feel bad about eating. Apple slices with cheese, yogurt covered pretzels, spiced nuts and love eating fruit. But when I eat good things through out the day - I don't feel bad when I down some chocolate. I also drink mostly water too - so I also don't feel bad when I have a caffiene free coke.

But make sure you get food you actually like - otherwise you just get cranky.

    Happy snacking!

  • It must be so hard to be home on bedrest and being bored. I would want to snack all day.  Maybe have tons of raw veggies on hand, peppers, squash, etc that are low in carbs that you can snack on?
