My mom told me a few days ago that whooping cough is really going around this year. She took my sister for a check-up on Monday and her doctor strongly recommended that she receive a vaccine for it.
I know that my OB gave me a booster for it at my 6 week PP check-up after delivering Allie. I will be making sure DH gets his booster this year, and anyone else who will be having a lot of contact with this baby.
Just thought I would share for those of us expecting, or have small ones. It is something to think about!

Re: Whooping Cough
Yikes! We all always get the flu shot. DH and me both got ours last week and Allie got hers on Monday. I did not get it one year about five years ago and I got the flu...it was horrible!
Plus, since my sister is disabled and has lots of pulmonary/respiratory issues, her doctors pretty much insist that anyone who is a caregiver who spends a lot of time around her gets it. That is pretty much the same consensus for the pertussis shot too.
I heard about this today.
I'm calling our dr to ask about Lydia and what she's gotten as I can't remember. I'm going to get us set up to get the vaccine too.
Scary!!!
Yep, the whooping cough has been all over the news lately. It absolutely terrified me!! Our pedi told us that with each vaccine that the risks of getting it drops. Also, I was worried about the daycare workers, but I assume they get vaccinated too. I pretty much kept Miller in a bubble until he got his shots.
I got vaccinated for pertussis at my 6 week PP checkup and DH got vaccinated too. I know I posted something a while back about whooping cough shortly after I had Miller b/c it worried me so bad.
I'm definitely going to get a flu shot too this year. I got the flu shot and H1N1 while I was pregnant. I've had the flu before and really don't wanna have it again, especially with a baby in the house.
I was given the DTAP before I left the hospital and DH had his less than a year ago. I checked Charlotte's shot record, and she got the first round at her 2 month appointment.
I will be asking our parents to get the booster.
Thanks for the reminder. I will bring this up with DH to make sure he gets one. I think I will get mine before I leave the hospital PP, unless my OB thinks I should get it sooner, but I will ask. A friend posted something or other about the safety of it while pregnant a few weeks ago, but now that I have learned more about it I don't think I am concerned. That article is enough for me!
(Also, she is one of those who won't get a flu shot and tends to question these things anyway, but that's her choice.)
I got the flu shot yesterday and I have had zero effects from it so far. I'd never gotten one before.DH is getting that as well.
