This morning I got an email about a position within my company that I am really interested in. I had to tell my boss about it since the recruiter would be reaching out to her for backing. When I told my manager about it she asked if I thought this was a good time to be interviewing given that I was pregnant and why would they hire me if I would be out on maternity leave. My manager has a kid and usually really good about work/life balance - - so I was a little floored by her comment. I know that they can't discriminate against me interviewing - - but I still want the opportunity to interview. Do you think I should still try and interview for this position? I did let the recruiter know about the baby and leave - - but also added that I would be willing to return early from maternity leave if needed. Thoughts? I'm also worried what this could do to my chances of returning to my current job once maternity leave is over. I think I just shot myself in the foot.
Re: WWYD - Job related
You might not be able to return to your current job? Is that allowed?
Honestly, I would apply for it. It lets the recruiter know that you are interested. You might be surprised to get the job even with the leave. If you don't get it, and someone else does and they are not good at it, the recruiter may remember you and you will maybe still get the job.
