Questions for OB at 31 weeks?

I have an appointment today, and I want to press my doctor to sit down and talk with me a little bit longer than she has in past visits. I always seem to have questions prior to going in, but never write them down, or forget to ask. She's usually in for .5 seconds, then out the door again. I've been making a list to take with me this afternoon, but I want to know:

What are you asking your OBs at this point in your pregnancy?

Re: Questions for OB at 31 weeks?

  • At my 32 week appt I remember asking at what point they don't stop labor and at what point they would induce if all else is normal. I also wanted to know what the practice's philosophy is concerning episiotomies. Try writing your questions on your smartphone if you have one. That's the only thing that ended up working for me.
  • I go tomorrow for my 32 week appointment and I'm also going to ask about what point they don't stop labor and when (if) they induce if everything's okay.

I'm also going to ask about where he stands on an occasional glass of wine at this point. I've held out this long, but I am in desperate need of a little liquid relaxation these days. DH wants to hear from the doctor that it's okay.

  • At my 31and 32 week appointments (one with MW, one with OB), we talked briefly about baby's position (she was head down), what happens if she's not, any questions I had re: birth (for me, specific to a vbac).

  • I had my appointment Tuesday. I've had some cramping/contractions and just asked at what point I should call or be concerned.

That sucks that your doctor is in and out very quickly. I feel like mine was too but there really wasn't much to go over since everything looks fine at this point. We actually talked about football more than the baby/pregnancy.

  • You can ask about their patient care philosophy, how open they are to trying different methods if it looks like you may need a c-section, if you do need a c-section how likely are they to let you go home early if you want, ask about suturing, ask about philosophy on assistance during birth (episiotomies, vaccuum, etc.), ask how the hospital handles recovery, ask if there are any resources that you look at for birth control methods after baby is born, etc.

During my first pregnancy I always felt like I should have more questions but never thought of any. Hope this helps! You'll do fine. :)
