Postpartum Depression

The Pill and PPD/PP Anxiety

I did some research and read that the pill can augment PPD and/or post partum anxiety (which I have).  With my therapist's OK, we decided I would go off the pill and see if any of my symptoms improve.  I'm not taking any meds right now and I'm hoping going off the hormones will help me in some way, shape or form since when I thought back to when I started feeling very anxious, it was around the time I started taking the pill again.

Anyone else go off the pill and feel a little better?  If so, how long until you saw an improvement?

Re: The Pill and PPD/PP Anxiety

  • There's a very clear connection between hormones and depression. BCPS work on hormones, some of the same hormones that are raging after childbirth. So if one can cause depression then it's logical to assume the other could as well. In my case the fact that I'd had depression problems due to hormonal birth control (depo) in the past put me on the watch list for PPD and sure enough, I just left my 6 week appointment today with a script for zoloft. Once I went off the depo before the depression resolved itself so there's definitely hope for you once you're off the BCPs.

    Good luck!
