There is a twice yearly mothers consignment sale here and I usually go to it. I was telling my SIL about it and she acts like it's gross to buy LO used toys and/or clothes. I think if you wipe it down with a chlorox wipe, it's good as new and cheaper! WDYT?
Re: Do you shop at consignment stores?
Oh sure! You can find such good stuff! I've even found things with the tags still on them.
yes, especially consignment stores in more affluent areas. dd's got some amazing clothes for next to nothing from them.
I don't know if I'd say anything is "as good as new" since you have no idea what the item's history is. Granted, you can certainly find some great deals, but we tend to only buy B used clothes (and very rarely), since I can wash the hell out of them and use the sanitize setting if I'm remotely concerned. Toys just have too many little crevices that can house germs and god knows what else.
I am a big believer in sales, coupons, and clearance racks. B has loads of great clothes, and we've never paid more than $5 for a piece (top or bottom) unless we absolutely HAD to have it.

Most of my baby's wardrobe is from Goodwill. When it comes to toys, his grandparents and aunts/uncles spoil him, so we don't have to buy him any really. I did just get him a Tickle Me Elmo at Goodwill, though. It was $3 and I wanted to get him the same exact one at Target and it was cha-ching.
His stroller (Maclaren) is from Ebay. His Snap n' Go was Craig's List. Not only is it cheaper to go thrift, it's EF.
Go Phils!!
This is going to sound weird, but I don't like buying used stuff - toys or clothes or whatever.
However, I am not against germs. I think germs are good. I think used stuff is gross.
Also, I know this is besides the point but I don't use Clorox on anything DS touches (I don't use it period, actually) because it is a harsh chemical. I think soap and water would be just fine to kill germs.
I've picked up a few things at a consignment store before and I've sold several big baby items on Craigslist. If something has been cared for in a non-smoking home and can be wiped clean, I think it is fine!
My friends and I also swap around some baby items. I recently just got back my swing, a doorway jumper, a baby papasan chair and a few other items. And I had borrowed the Rainforest Jumperoo and a Bumbo seat. Saved us over a $100 for something we would have only used a few months.
I do...for example, DS has a large wardrobe of almost ALL brand names (Shoes - Stride Rite, Merrill, Keen, Robeez. Clothes - Gymboree, Gap, Childrens Place, Old Navy, Carters, etc)...I've either got all of it heavily on sale with coupons or at consignment sales. I have actually better luck at the sales...I can get new looking brand name stuff for $2-$7. Some BRAND new!!
Also - toys...this is the best deal. DS has a ton of little people stuff and he's getting more for Christmas...ALL from consignment sales. Each piece was $5 and under.
He's also got his "big boy" room furniture already...Pottery Barn Kids Camp Bed set off Craigslist...new for $1500 not including shipping...I paid $800 with no shipping.
It allows me to buy DS more nice stuff...like PP said, I just make sure I stick to the nicer looking things.
Me too. I tried to shop consignment, but I saw tons of stuff I'd bought new for only about .50 less than I'd paid. Some was actually higher. I quit looking and haven't been back.
