Trying to Get Pregnant

Dh's SA results are in

It doesn't look good. :(  I didn't get numbers over the phone, but my OBGYN diagnosed low motility and low morphology. I'm so upset. I just don't know a lot about it, so I'm trying to do research, but what I read, scares me. Dh is going to call a urologist for an appt. tomorrow. We only abstained for 2 days. Could that have any impact on the results? I know it is 2 to 5 days, but maybe since it was only 2, the results are skewed? Just looking for any shred of hope right now.

Re: Dh's SA results are in

  • I am so sorry to hear this, Steff.  Please try not to over-Google though.  You'll be able to learn much more from doctors who've seen your DH's results firsthand than from Google, and additional worrying won't make you get KU faster, I promise.  I will be thinking of you as you work to get answers from doctors about how to proceed.  ::hugs::

ETA: I'm sorry, I don't know the answer to your question about abstaining.  You can ask your doctors, and you may want to get another SA at some point to see if it's different/better.  GL.

  • I'm sorry, Steff. That sucks a lot. I could be wrong on this but aren't male fertility issues easier to remedy than female ones? So that's a plus side, right?

Either way I'm sorry you're upset and I'll be praying that you can get things figured out. (((hugs)))

  • Bummer.  I'm no help with the answers either, but don't they usually do another SA a week or so after the first to make sure the results are similar?  Maybe try 4-5 days and see if the results are different?

  • Aww Steff, I'm sorry you didn't get better news. I hope you can hang on and hear what the urologist says in person, and they can get a game plan for you guys. I really don't know much about all this, but I just wanted to give you some moral support. I want you to be KU, dammit!!

  • oh no! Like PP said, don't over google.

My DH just did his today and he started wondering if the hot shower he took 2 hours before would impact it or the fact that it's been a week since we've gotten busy.

If needed, you can repeat it!

  • I'm sorry! Make sure to tell the doctor that you only abstained for two days, maybe they will have some advice and/or tell you whether or not that could have made a difference. Good luck!

  • Thanks ladies. I appreciate your thoughts and prayers. I'm trying to stay strong and not over google! My husband does want to redo the test, so I guess I shouldn't worry until then. And Saucy, that is what I thought too, but from what I've read about low motility, IVF might be the path we have to take.

  • The time you abstained could have some impact. Your DH really should do a second one to make sure the first one was accurate. From everything I've read, there can be differences from one SA to another.

The urologist will be able to help you make sense of the numbers. IF his numbers truly are low, there are lots of possible causes/treatments. When we talked to the urologist he was able to explain quite a bit about DH's numbers and what the best plan for us would be.

  • I'm so sorry to hear this.  Keep us updated!
  • I'm so sorry Steph  :(

    Did they give you numbers?

I think that going to the Uro will help a lot. MH and I went to one first and he gave us some bad advice so my suggestion would be to see if you can find someone in your area who specalizes in MFI. Once we did that- it was a HUGE help.

There are still options so don't give up! I know it's scary, but there are still possibilities!!

They are mailing me the numbers, and faxing them over to the urologist when DH makes his appt. I'll make sure he specializes in MFI. That's great advice. Thank you.

  • I'm so sorry to hear this :(  I don't have any advice but I hope he is able to test again and that the results are better next time!  Keep us updated!
  • Sorry about your news.  I don't know much about SA, but hopefully DH responds well to whatever the treatment is, and you guys will be KU in no time!

    GL!

  • I'm sorry about the low numbers, steff. Sending you big hugs! I'll keep my fingers crossed that the second SA comes back better and this one was a fluke.
