I have a complete placenta previa and my Dr. is concerned about a possible accreta and wants a MRI done asap and I am worried about it. Has anyone had an MRI while pregnant and would you do it?
I had to have an MRI when I was 15 weeks pregnant. I was in the ER, and had appendicitis - they needed to do the MRI for diagnostic purposes. MRI is the go to test for pregnant women who need something more thorough than sonograms. I was told that when in the second trimester, there was less risk associated with the test due to the fact that the baby's organ systems are fully developed and in the growing stage. I have since had to have many an ultrasound due to other problems during my pregnancy and the baby is doing wonderfully - growing fine, and developing well.
I would say if you feel uneasy about the MRI, discuss it with your doctor. I didn't really have a choice in the matter of having it due to my emergency situation. I suppose that may go into your decision as well - would having the MRI for a diagnostic purpose outweigh the risk of not having one to see if there is anything they can do to make sure your baby is healthy. But having had one - I have been told that it hasn't been a problem since. Good Luck!
An MRI should be fine but I'd discuss your questions with your Dr. Unlike Xrays or CT scans, MRIs don't produce any radiation and uses magnets to produce the images. Just make sure you have all of your jewelry off.

Thank you ladies! My MRI is on fri and Im hoping for the best. I do think it's better to find out whats going on now rather then my Dr. going in blinded. Crossing my fingers
I had a closed MRI done last week and I am 24 weeks pregnant with twins. No one told me how bad it would suck. Apparently there are open MRI machines and after the fact my dr who reffered me told me I should have requested the open MRI machine. I laid on my left side in a small tube for 1.5 hours. I worked at a tanning bed in college so I thought awh no big deal, I was a little freaked out once inside. Fortunately I was able to watch a movie while doing it, it was hard to hear over the loud noises the machine made but still was helpful to concentrate on the movie instead of how trapped I felt. My girls apparently hated the loud noises too and so they moved a LOT. Which was fun for me and not so fun for the MRI tech. I would do it again in a heart beat just for the peace of mind that everything is okay, but it wont be the funnest day of your life.

I will be having one Friday and have been assured by my OB and the doctors at Johns Hopkins that I will be fine.
I have to trust them at this point so I just made up my mind that I am going to.

Campbaby - just curious who you are using at Hopkins? I will be seeing Blakemore, but have also met with Dr. Fox who I really liked.
