Any LEEP ladies out there?

I'm curious if anyone on here has had the LEEP procedure done?  I'm a little nervous about my cervix opening too early.  I know they can put the stitch in if they see that it is starting to shorten. (I start getting an ultrasound every other week starting at 16 weeks).  Just curious if anyone else is in the same boat?  Also, has anyone had a successful pregnancy post-LEEP and were you able to carry the baby full term?

Re: Any LEEP ladies out there?

  • I had the LEEP done in 1992. My doc has not seen any problems/issues with my cervix thus far. My doc is also not taking any special precautions such as increased u/s. I'm slated to have one u/s per month, which is normal in this practice.

This is my first so I can't answer your second question.

  • I had a LEEP done in early 2006.  My doctor says so far my cervix looks good, but after around 20 weeks, once the baby is putting more pressure on it, they will start monitoring more closely.

  • I have had one but as this is my first pregnancy I can't help with the other questions - I'm in the same boat as you.

I did make the mistake of googling the procedure for stitching you up though and that wasn't pretty. Just an FYI.

My doc said they would check the length of my cervix after 16 weeks but said they wouldn't do any extra ultrasounds so I'm not sure what they will do, I'm guessing the dildocam? I'm just hoping insurance will cover that....

Nice to know someone else is going thorugh it though.... especially since we are only a couple of days apart.

  • I had a LEEP done in Nov 2006.  I asked my MW about having the procedure and what I had heard about it causing an incompetent cervix.  She has me going for a cervical length check on the 27th (the same appointment as my NT scan).  My MW said that having the LEEP shouldn't be an issue but that we would keep an eye on the length of my cervix.

  • I carried full term with DS with no complications whatsoever with my cervix. They are actually keeping a closer eye on things this go around though just to be safe. But yes, I had a successful pregnancy after  LEEP done in 2002.

Yup, dildocam.  I asked about the insurance aspect and she said that it is completely covered since it is medically necessary.  So, I guess the brightside is that I will get to see my little baby every 2 weeks!

Yes, it is always good to know that others are going through the same thing.  It makes me nervous!  Thanks ladies!

  • I had a LEEP in 2009, and this will be my first pregnancy since... My OB/GYN told me that the chances of having an incompetant (sp?) cervix is very rare.  She didn't have any concerns whatsoever with my getting pregnant so soon afterwards.
  • Yes, I had a LEEP and cone biopsy about a year ago. I am also carrying twins, which increases the risk obviously. I will have frequent cervix checks, and they expect that a cerclage is likely. I am definitey nervous about it, but I have to trust my doctors.

  • i did not have a LEEP.  but i do have an Incompetent Cervix - that was discovered during my last pregnancy at 17 weeks when i was dilated to a 4 with water bulging.  this time around they are putting a cerclage in next week (while it's fully closed and shut) - and i will have weekly apointments to monitor it.
