The information session went very well last night. I ended up very interested in a domestic heritage program where I can adopt a child waiting for a family, hopefully around 4 or 5 and pay no fees. When you adopt through this program, the state gives you a stiped to help raise your child until their 18 and also medicaid until their 18. So I wont even have to switch to a family insurance plan. This is a perfect option for me, especially since Im single. I was concerned how I would afford everything. Now I can be a parent and not have to stress about the financial part. I know they often have some emotional or development issues, but I have a lot of experience working with children with these issues! Im so excited! Im going to pay off some more things to be more stable and hopefully pull the plug in a year.

Re: YAY!!!
That sounds awesome!
As someone who adopted an older child, I can assure you that it is the most amazing thing I have ever done in my life. Seeing the changes in him and us every day makes all the challenges worth it. But the transition is definitely difficult. If you can, I highly recommend reading as much as you can on attachment and raising hurt/neglected children. I don't know how I would have gotten through some of our more difficult periods (or will continue to), if I didn't know what kinds of behaviors to expect or have some techniques for dealing with them.
