2nd+ time moms- nose aspirator - good investment?

I've read online that it is worth it for a $20-25 battery operated nose aspirator b/c the cheap bulbs cause nosebleeds and discomfort for infants...

I myself have sinus problems...and my LO may inherit that sensitivity...

Is it worth the investment or is it a load of advertisement for people who don't know what to do with their money??  MIL said that the hospital gives you a cheap bulb and that is good enough..

thanks!!!

  • Those batter operated ones are a waste of money!  They don't work at all!  I do have the bulb and they work fine.  BUT I found this thing called Nosefrida and it's the best!  DD had a cold couple months ago and this thing works like a charm!  I bought it on Amazon.  But don't just take my word for it, look it up on Amazon and read the other reviews.

    I HIGHLY recommend it!!!!

I have found that the best nasal aspirator during colds is the blue bulb syringe they will give you for free from the hospital when you go home.  I would never pay money for a battery operated one.  We did try buying another bulb syringe at BRU and it was terrible.  I am going to try to steal a couple when I am in the hospital w/ this baby if I can, so I have some extras.

    THIS!

Try to grab as many as you can. Ask the nursery if you can take a few extras, because they're THE best booger suckers. I have yet to find a store-bought aspirator that works as well as the one from the hospital.

I was a sucker and bought the Graco electronic nasal aspirator. Ridiculous waste of money. That thing is terrible.

  • I must have list my mind because I read about a hundred reviews on this topic one night. They all agreed with the PPs. NoseFrida is the best (and cheap). I ordered mine online. The only other thing that works is the bulb from the hospital but it'll be broken soon. Bulbs from the store or battery-operated ones were garbage according to Amazon reviewers.
  •  nosefrida is the one that you have to suck on, right? aren't the filters a pain? I read one lady just put tissue/paper towel in ...anyone try this?
  • Stock up on the hospital ones.  Get as many as you can.  Keep hiding them and ask for more.  The battery ones are useless and that nose frieda thing freaks me out :-)

I had one of the blue bulb syringe ones from the hospital but the pedi gave us a green bulb one that was twice as big and man is it great!!  It gets the snot out with one suck rather than the 2 or 3 sucks it took with the blue one.

  • Well, DD freaked out any time we came near her with the bulb thing. Our pedi just had us use Little Noses drops if she got stuffy sinuses (and no suction, just let it drain), and if it was something we could see, we used a q-tip. Worked great!

I'm not going to try anything weird. On Amazon, it's just $5 for 20 filters or Nosefrida +24 filters is $20. I hear the filters last a really Lon time and they're much more sanitary than the bulb because it's almost impossible to clean that thing out.

The "stuff" that you suck out of LO's nose doesn't really reach the filter.  I've used the Nosefrida everyday for about a week when DD has a cold and the filter stayed dry/clean.  I can't say enough good things about it.  It's so easy to clean too! Yes, it's disgusting when you see the snot  and boogies get sucked in the tube! But, hey, that's how you know that it works!  When you're done, you just pop the tube out and rinse with water! So easy!

And yes, if you had to replace the filter, they are super cheap to buy!

This!  When we did our labor classes at the hospital this was one piece of advice that our instructor/nurse gave us.  She said we would never find another one in a store as good, and she was right!  We had a few in the grooming/safety kits that we received as gifts and they are CRAP!

As far as cleaning it, we would fill the sink with soapy water after using it and suck and rinse with it.  DD is 20 months old and we still use it when needed!
