C-section moms

DD will still be in her crib when DS is born (she'll be 17 months). I'm having a repeat c-section with DS. After the first week or so when DH has to go back to work, will I be able to get DD in her crib for a nap? DH is home for bedtime, so that won't be an issue. Maybe a step stool? She'll also be in daycare 3 days a week (most likely). I def. don't want to mess up her nap routine!

Re: C-section moms

  • I guess it depends on how you feel.  I felt great after my repeat C and was able to lift my DS in and out of the crib and car seat, etc, one week later.

  • It definitely depends on the person. Mine was not a repeat c-section, so I was in labor for a long time before the surgery. I could not handle lifting my 18 month old for the first 2 weeks. During the 3rd week I lifted him a few times, but it still hurt quite a bit. By week 4 I was on my own with him, but I could lift him with only minor pain.

  • i felt pretty great after my c/s with the twins - I did not lift Griffin into the crib for 4 weeks - while DH was home with me... but if i HAD to i could have easily after a week or two - but would have really limited it to just naps and have DH do it at night time - to make sure i healed well (my DS1 is pretty big)

This. I also had no choice but to lift by the end of week 1 as I had no one tohelp me during nap time and DS wouldn't have been able to get in and out of the crib with a step stool.

  • Mine are 17 months apart.

    I did it.

Bend with your knees and listen to your body.

If you put her down awake it's easier for you because you can put her in on her feet instead of needing to lower her all the way in on her back.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.

A step stool for me, LOL...just to help me get her over the railing (we have a stationary crib, and I'm short)

  • Just listen to your body. It should be fine. I started lifting my other kid(s) after a week of being home also. No issues.

  • It wasn't an issue for me at all.  I was lifting DS within a week of my c/s, just into and out of the crib though - anything more than that would have been pushing it.

  • I had a very similar post about 8 weeks ago :) Just lift with your legs and be very careful. I only lifted DS when absolutely necessary and once DH got home I made him do all of the lifting. Also, take advantage of that nap time to rest. I know you'll have to take care of your newborn, but I found that either napping or just sitting on the couch and watching TV with my feet elevated for that couple of hours during my toddler's nap really helped me to not feel like I was totally overdoing it.

  • I felt fine after both of my surgeries. I was able to do most things within reason.
