First Response Fertility Test?

Has anyone ever taken one? It measures the level of FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) in your urine on CD 3. Supposedly, it tells you if your ovarian reserve (quantity and quality of eggs) is at a normal level or if your ovarian reserve could be at a level that may be affecting your chances of conception. I got a free one in a 3 pack of FRER at WalMart. 4 things to pee on for like $13!

Re: First Response Fertility Test?

  • I wouldn't use it.  it is not really an accurate measure.  If you are concerned or think you might have issues in that area, I would consult with an RE and have them do testing.  That test isn't going to really give you a true accuate measure ad it could even upset you for no reason.  I think it's one of those things where you get what you pay for.  I mean they also sell over the counter gender predictor kits as well and I wouldn't trust one of those either.

  • I'd be afraid to take it! What if it said no way, i'd be freaked out until a doctor told me otherwise.

  • I got one of those freebies too.  It had been a while since I had my levels tested so I tried it.  Mine turned up normal but if it had been high I would be running to the RE for CD3 testing.

I would say try it if you want, but bear in mind that you have to use it on CD3.  So if it came back high, you would have to wait until your next CD3 to have your levels tested by a doctor, and that is a long wait.

  • I got a freebie, too and used it this cycle when I was getting bloodwork done on CD3 anyway.  I thought it might help the wait for the results. It agreed with the blood test results that I was fertile, but it wasn't until later I realized I hadn't done the test right (hadn't waited long enough before reading the results). Oh, well! I'd say test away if you can deal with the results, but if it's just going to stress you out than don't bother.

  • I did it a while ago and it said everything was fine but my doctor said not to go by it..
  • I took it cuz it was free and I needed something to pee on since I was out for the month.  Thing is, it takes CD1 as the first day of spotting or flow of any kind.  Well, I spot for days before what I consider to be the real CD1...CD1 for me is accopmpanied by a side of super sized cramps...the spotting has virtually no pain at all.  Mine turned out to be 'normal' but the line was a bit darker than I would've liked.  I'm not going to worry about it though.  Down the road if I decide to have testing done then I'll still have the Dr do it...it's way more reliable.
  • I got a 2-pack when we started trying last year.  The first test looked normal and we conceived.  I used the remaining test last month - but I "failed" the test and kinda freaked out.  But, after thinking about it, I'm not really sure how they define CD3 - I tend to spot a day or two before AF, so not sure if I tested on the wrong day and that may have led to the results.  I was going to buy another test for this month, but when I saw they were $15, I decided to skip it.

  • I got one for free too. I had CD 3 testing done (FSH included) and I am still afraid to pee on it. If you want to, though, go for it!
