Moby Question

I am ready to start using my Moby Wrap and am wondering what the difference is between the folded and gathered wrapping (aside from one is gathered and one folded). Which do you prefer?

Also, how long does LO spend in the Moby?

Re: Moby Question

  • I have only ever used the folded wrap.  We absolutely love it.  LO naps in it almost every day as I do chores.  She is in it for about 3 hours each afternoon.

  • I felt like I could get it a little snugger folded, but that may have just been in my head. Unfortunately, I liked it but my DS did not! He screamed everytime he was in it and would continue to so it never lasted long. I exchanged it for the most basic carrier I could find and he loves it and spends a lot of time in it. (a good hour or more when I'm cleaning up around the house.)

Yep, that is our Colby bear.  They are the cutest!  He is now our LO's body guard.  It is too cute.

  • I prefer the folded.  Mainly cuz it seems more "organized" to me.  I tried the gathered method since it seemed easier at first, but, I felt like it was way too much fabric to deal with.  Plus, doubled up it helps make DD fit in there tighter.

  • I wrapped folded at first, but now that she is bigger I wrap gathered. I feel like she's more secure with the fabric wider.

  • You can do different "carries" when you fold, vs. gather. For instance, there are several newborn carries you can only do when you fold the wrap and put the baby in the "pockets" of the folds. These are the only carries I feel secure putting my newborn in. You can easily search you tube under "moby wrap newborn" to get those kind of videos for instructions.

When she gets older and has head control and we graduate to the gathered carries, I'll see how I feel with those.

Same here. I feel like folded is more "organized" if that makes sense. And I feel like I can get it tighter and snugger that way.

  • i think folded one is for the cradle hold. i just scrunch it up and strap it on and smooth it out after she's in the wrap. she loooooves the wrap and spends a lot of time in it during the day, maybe 2 or 3 naps during the day so between 4-6 hours. i'm getting concerned it might be detrimental for her spinal development so i'm alternating between moby and the ergo carrier since the infant insert claims to support their sacrum while it's developing. she loves to be wrapped up which is nice for me because i get so much done around the house. sometimes i'm able to move her out of the wrap and put her down in her napper, but she usually ends up waking up after a short while.
