Croup

So I'm in the middle of a move, as in I'm flying out from USVI tomorrow morning and heading back home to Atlanta. The doctor that I used for the first few weeks of my pregnancy is off island at the moment and I can't get in touch with her.

The friends I've made arrangements to be staying with for about a month have 2 boys, 4 and 7. I just found out the younger of the boys has croup, which means the older will have it in no time! 

I've Googled and haven't found anything really conclusive. Does anyone know if croup is dangerous to catch while you're pregnant? Should I make other arrangements until everyone is better, or should I stick to my original plans?

do you know if they got the steriod to make them not contagious after 24 hrs.?  that's what my dr. asked when i told her i watch a little boy that has croup.

Croup isn't contagious to us!  All croup is, is a narrowing of the upper airway making them sound like a seal when then cough.  It might give you a cold.  I'm exposed to croup almost every day I work (Peds Emergency RN) and I don't have any problems with it.  Adults don't get croup.  The steriod doesn't help them become contagious or not, it helps decrease the swelling in their upper airway.  You might get a cold from moving and flying in the airplane more than from the little boy with croup.  Highly unlikely that the older brother at 7 years old will develop it too.  HTH.

this. my dd has had croup and we basically slept in the same bed. i had no issues.
