Congestion in kicking my butt

I couldn't sleep last night due to congestion. I've been up since 5am (with waking up pretty much hourly before that). I didn't go to work b/c I'm miserable. I don't think it's a cold, and my allergies never cause this much stuffiness, so I can only assume it's pregnancy related. I tried the neti pot, saline spray and contant blowing and nothing is helping. I want to nap so badly, but I'm a nose breather and feel like I'm suffocating when I try to sleep. I still have to work my 2nd job today even though I stayed home from my first job....it's only 2 hours, but I don't feel like doing anything

 Has anyone else had this problem? Anything that helps? I have my first appointment on Weds, so will ask my midwife then....I just have a feeling there wont' be a whole lot she can do either, though. I need to train myself to breath through my mouth, I guess.

Allergies are hitting me.

When you blow your nose is anything coming out?  If only a little bit or nothing at all is coming out it may be a sinus infection.  Swollen nasal passages can be confused for congestion.  You may want to see a doctor.

I am getting some stuff out, and it's clear, which is why infection did not occur to me. I've had sinus infections, and the mucus is definitely not clear. I do think it's swollen up in there, but I've read that hormones can do that also.

Congestion was actually my first pregnancy symptom. My mom always joked that she had a cold for 9 months while she was pregnant with me, so when I started have cold-like symptoms that never actually?turned?in to a cold, I knew something was up. I just stocked up on soft tissues, not sure if any meds are safe to take, but I'll ask when I go in for my appointment in November.

My allergies were kicking my butt until I finally called the Dr. and asked what I could take to replace the Zyrtec-D that I take.  She okayed me to take regualr Zyrtec and since then my nose hasn't been to stuffy.  I would for sure ask your midwife as I'm sure that is making you miserable.

The conjestion is from your pregnancy. It has to do with the mucus membranes. They produce more. Just like "down there" is producing more the membranes in your sinuses do the same.

Oh my goodness this is so helpful! I had no idea that congestion was a pregnancy thing, I haven't been able to breathe for a while either. It's nice to know that it's not just me

For what it's worth try the sinus rinse (a bottle made by the neti pot people), I had to do that on Saturday and it helped my congestion quite a bit. Feel better soon!

I have one of those, actually, but haven't used it. Does it work better than the neti pot? I feel like I've squirted so much saline up there today, hopefully there's no such thing as "too much."

I don't think you can overdose on saline- but I am no doctor and shouldn't give advice like this. All I can tell you is that it really really works for me (and I get scary bad sinus headaches). I haven't used the netipot yet (blue thing) just because the bottle thing works so well. Try using warm water with it too!

Have you tried sleeping propped up at all? That helped me quite a bit with the cold I had last week. Hope you feel better soon!

I'm sick, too! But I think mine's actually a cold or allergies that turned into a cold. I'm miserable! My voice is gone & I'm a little achy too. Probably doesn't help that I went to work today. I'm going to have to stay home tomorrow.

I feel the same way. sooo much congestion. I have been trying the neti pot too and vics vapor rub. I am thinking about getting a humidifier for my room at night. Mine started about 3 days ago and it seems to be getting a little better today.
