1st Trimester

8 weeks and awful "morning" sickness...wanting grapefruit juice!!

This "morning" sickness lasts all day!!  I never have an appetite for anything and when I do eat something I am instantly nauseous.  I know that this can be perfectly normal and am just trying to get through it.  But this morning I had a craving for grapefruit juice.  Is this ok to drink??  I know it acidic and have heard that the acidity late in pregnancy can induce labor, but what about his early??  Any help would be great to be able to eat and drink something that actually sounds good!

  • I drank gallons of grapefruit juice during the 1st trimester last time. I've never heard of it being a problem.  Anything sour/citrus really helped.

  • Grapefruit juice is fine.
  • The sour will help with your MS.  I would eat sour gummy worms and Atomic fireballs to get me through the ms for my 1st.
  • I am 8 weeks today and I was hit with horrible "morning" sickness.. Mine lasts all day too.. It started for me at 5 weeks and Its so bad I get nautious at the sight or smell of food. I am starving and when I try to eat anything big. I get sick or gag so I have only been eating crackers and small things.. I finally had to go to the er and get Zofran and it helps but still have days where it doesnt seem to work.. I heard somewhere about Sour Patch Kids working for the sickness. and I got some and tried em and It does help. The sour just takes the edge away and I carry them with me now and suck on a few when I need to..  I would say the juice would be fine. I just wouldnt drink tons . just like anything but If you want to you can ask your doctor.. Hopefully you start to feel better soon !!!!
  • Just a suggestion, but somthing thats been helping me get through the first trimester nausea is preggy pops. I picked a little container of them up at Destination Maternity, and they have helped alot. They are fairly sour, but they don't leave you with alot of acid afterwards. Really seems to help with the salt water taste in my mouth. Another thing that seems to work is candied ginger, which you can get about anywhere. Alot of folks use it for sea sickness, but I find it helps with morning sickness as well. If it gets too bad where you start vommitting alot, you may want to ask your OB/GYN for a prescription for Zofran, or another anti-nauseant. Good luck! LTJ

  • Yes... grapefruit juice cravings! I've had that for two weeks now. So I've got a Costco-sized bottle chilled in my refrigerator right now... love it!

Hope your MS ends soon as I hope mine does too.

Nutmeg, cilantro, sage, mint, thyme... these are a few of my favorite things! Visit The Nest!Visit The Nest! We have four children; one left us too soon.
