How to make apples for LOs?

How do you cook apples to soften them?  Bake?  Microwave?

Apples used to make him constipated but I want to try again and make him some cinnamon apples.  Just not sure how to make them.

Thanks!

Re: How to make apples for LOs?

  • I have baked apples in the microwave before.  Cored them and put a little cinnamon and sugar in the middle.  But that was for me, not my kids :)

I just give DS the apple and let him chew away.  He LOVES apples.  I will take a bite to get it "started" and let him have at it.  (Just for age reference, he turned 1 two weeks ago).

  • Just like you would Potatoes. I have an apple slicer then through it in a pot and let Them cook until their soft & i pur?e since DS doesn't like many textures.
  • I'm impressed that your DS can eat an apple like that!

My DD can't chew the pieces - and she would never be able to get the skin down with her four teeth.  I still peel most things for her - fruit skins are really hard to chew without molars!

OP - I peel and cut the apple into small pieces then steam for a minute or two - just enough to soften a bit.  Sprinkle with cinnamon and serve!

  • Peeled and in very thin slices, either raw or sprinkled with cinnamon and microwaved until soft.

  • Ah yes.  DS has 6 teeth now.  I can just feel the first molar starting to come through.  But he is OBSESSED WITH FOOD, so he doesn't seem to have a problem with the apple skin.  If it is food, he will figure out a way to get it down the hatch.  LOL.  Dang, that kid can eat.

For reference (pic from family picnic night on the floor).  I'm sure as I took this picture, he was plotting a way to steal DD's food from her plate.

  • I slice it in very thin slices after peeling it (they end up looking like french fries hah) and just let her chew away.  Just started doing this about two weeks ago tho.  She's doing well with it.
  • I give them raw but peeled and cut into very thin slices.

  • DS has been eating whole peel apples since about 10 months.  He now has no problem with apples with peel.

He absolutely loves them and seems to do ok even though he still has only four teeth!

My DS eats apples like this too, except we peel them for him. But he holds the whole thing and just bites at it.
