Trying to Get Pregnant

Implantation Bleeding?

Hiya Ladies!

I am 9 days post ovulation and since yesterday have been experiencing some spotting.  Some has been red.  Should I be concerned?  My period is not due for several more days.  Thoughts?  Oh, and can I test tomorrow or is that too soon?

 Thanks!

Re: Implantation Bleeding?

  • You won't know if it's implantation bleeding until you get a + test.  It's not uncommon to spot during your cycle.  I spotted for several days during my last cycle.  10 DPO is too early to test, wait until AF is actually late.  Do you know when you ovulated for sure?  Do you temp?

  • When does implantation occur? Can I see signs of implantation on my chart?

If conception occurred, implantation (when the fertilized egg attaches to the uterine wall) typically happens seven to ten days after ovulation, but it can happen a few days earlier or later as well.

There are some signs of implantation or successful conception that may be seen on your chart but all of them can occur with or without pregnancy. You can also be pregnant and see none of these signs on your chart. There is thus really no way to know if they are related to implantation while they are happening, though they occur with greater frequency on pregnancy charts. Some possible signs of implantation or successful conception are:

    • light spotting that happens for just a brief period of time around seven to ten days past ovulation.
    • a second thermal shift that occurs around seven to ten days past ovulation.
    • a dip in temperature that lasts just a single day, around seven to ten days past ovulation.

While these signs may offer clues as to whether or not you have an increased probability of pregnancy, they are really not a reliable way to gauge whether or not you may be pregnant. You can experience any of these signs and be pregnant, or not pregnant, just as you can experience none of these signs and be pregnant or not pregnant. Keep this in mind when you are scrutinizing your chart while you wait to take a pregnancy test.

While you can be cautiously optimistic if you do see these signs (if you have well-timed intercourse during your fertile time) there is no way to really know if you are pregnant before you can reliably test for pregnancy. Likewise, if you do not see these signs (and you have well-timed intercourse within your fertile time) you need not give up hope before the end of your cycle. Many women do not experience implantation signs or very early pregnancy signs at all.

  • I had implantation spotting the cycle I got my BFP, but it lasted all of a couple hours.

How do you know when your period is due?

  • I'm on a perfect 28 day cycle.  This is our second baby and I didn't have any implantation bleeding with the first, so I'm a little weirded out.

Cycles can vary in length, even if they've always been perfect in the past.  Wait until you think AF is late to test.

  • So, what if I never spot at all during my cycle?  I only bleed during AF.  I can feel ovulation cramping and my discharge changes in consistency.  I also used Predictor kits which concurred with the other signs.  So hard to wait to test!

Test if you want, but it'd be better if you waited.

  • Oh, I'm fine waiting to test.  I was just wondering why I would be having period-like spotting when I'm not supposed to be on my period until Wednesday.  I actually just had some small clots pass.  If this means we're not pregnant, when do I say "day 1" of my period was this cycle?

Day 1 is first day of red bleeding

That to me sounds like CD1.

  • I've never had a period start 5-6 days early.  What could it mean?

That you are pregnant with twins! No but really who knows? It's too early to know for sure and really you should just wait a couple of more days to test or wait for AF.

  • Wouldn't THAT be fun!  It would certainly be better than a visit from Aunt Flow!
  • Well, I'm pretty sure I got AF today.  I'm so confused.  Why would my period start so early when it is ALWAYS 28 days long.  I keep close track of this.  Weird that the first month we try to conceive, my period comes 5 days early.

You ovulated earlier than you usually do.  Charting your temp could help you with this.  I highly encourage it- I was not up for it at first, but with my crazy cycles, I'm so glad I'm doing it.  I didn't ovulate until after CD 50 this time, had I not been temping, I would have wondered why I was "late" or getting BFNs.

  • I ovulated right on time too.  So strange!  50 days?!  Wow!  I went to that charting website that one of you suggested and signed up.  It seems like a lot of work. Haha!  We'll see what happens with this next go-around.  I may be more motivated to track my temp if we fail again.
  • How do you know you ovulated on time? You don't temp correct? That's the only way you can confirm it for sure without bloodwork. Opks and CM can't prove ovulation.
  • It's a combination of contributing factors.  I am actually able to feel cramping at the point of ovulation and it always comes on the same day as my CM change.  The OPK only confirmed what I already knew.  I got a very bold test line on the same day as my other symptoms.  I'm sure it's not perfectly accurate, but close enough for now.  Our first daughter was conceived on our first try using this method, but this time I may need to try something new.  We'll see!  I'm just excited to be trying at this point!
