How would you take this??

I am not easily offended at all even when people make comments about DD. I realize people are stupid and don't think about things they say and I just say something nice back and go on...

Today at Panera a mom of a little boy who was maybe 12-18months or so asked how old DD was and I said 10 months. She said oh wow she looks much older.

I feel like I get that a lot. Would you assume she means because DD is bigger? She is tall and about 21-22lbs, lots of hair. Or maybe just because she is a very content baby and sat there and read her book and ate her bagel maybe she looked sophisticated ;)

I guess I just wonder what she meant by she looks older. ha ha I don't know why I keep thinking about this.

  • I would guess that it's a combo of her size and all the hair.  People really don't know what to say, I think they think of babies they know as their frame of reference and if your DD looks older, that's what they say!

I actually got that all the time too when Justin was a baby......he had TONS of hair and was always tall and chunky for his age.  Tyler is the same way.  Funny thing is, we went to the Renaissance Festival last weekend, and someone saw Tyler and said, "How old is he?  About 8 months?"  I was astonished!

  • I would not be offended, but we get that a lot too.  Not because of size.  She is a peanut, but because she can carry on a conversation.  I actually got the side eye once at a restaurant that allows kids 2 and under to eat free.  DD was working the waitress, so when she finally asked her age for the bill, she could not believe me that she is 2.  She is about the size of an 18 month old, so I was surprised that she was so skeptical about it.

  • I get the same thing with Brooke.  I too think it's her size and the fact that her hair is so long.
  • My kid has been called a "chunk", a "buster", and "oh my, he's big for his age, isn't he?" Honestly, he's not very long - he's just always been a little round for his age Stick out tongue
