High-Risk Pregnancy

33 weeks and PTL...

As of Monday I have been having contractions...Ugh! Yesterday, I went to my OB's office. This what happened, "Well, Im on modified bedrest. I can run small errands, but if I am having increased pain/pressure/and cramps, I am to stop even that. So I can sit in my living room chair with my feet up and lay in bed. I was dilated half a centimeter to 1 centimeter. My cervix is very soft. Babies heartrate was great. My Bp was 114/72.... No protein in my urine. Baby is completely head down, not off to the side anymore."

Then early this morning I was having extreme contractions and I was sitting in my chair. " I was having pains and pressure again last night, then hubs went into work.I got up when he got home to get a snack ( around 1:30-2:00am) and I made a drink and dumped some icetrays and got some crackers. I walked back to my chair and started with what to me was unbearable pain in my stomach area. Cont...ractions. Hubs sat with me for 2 hours and I had these pains till I feel asleep. Scott thinks they werent contractions cause I didnt have pressure when they were happening, but extreme pain. It hurt is my back for a few of them. I breathe threw them. This morning I woke up and I got a few pains again. I am right now sitting in my chair, had some toast, drink and then meds. My drs office doesnt open till 8:30am, I will be calling them again. I wonder if having the cervix check could have caused this?!!?! Oh i did have some mentrual type cramps about 2-3 hours after exam, but they went away. "

I went into OB's office today and had a NST.  "Bedrest! Baby is a champ, my uterus is not. I have a irritable uterus, causing contractions if I walk or even stand up. Resting and laying in bed till next week."

So now, I am on complete bedrest with some modification to it. Has anyone experienced this. I will be 37 next month, and I am 2 yrs out of Gastric Bypass. Please share with me. I am so scared. Thanks

Sunny

  • Did they put you on procardia? I am on procardia every 6 hours until I hit 37 weeks. I have been on it since 30 weeks.

  • Yep I am right there with ya. I was diagnosed with PTL on Wednesday and have been put on strict bed rest as a result. I am on Nifedipine and they thought I had a UTI. Went to the hospital like I was told if it continued to get a steroid shot for the babies lungs and they turned me away. Saying I was only experiencing the Contractions because of my UTI. Come to find out my doctors office got my urine results and I have no stupid UTI. So now back to PTL and bed rest. I think they are playing with my emotions. I am cramping really bad. Some starting in my back and others in my pelvis. Lovely DH thinks I am making it all up. I am so done with all of this it isnt funny.
  • Not pregnant yet..but TTC. I too have had gastric bypass and wondered if you have had any trouble with that? Have you gained enough weight, healthy baby....that sort of thing.

I have had no issues with my bypass and don't see a reason there would be any once I am expecting but wanted to check.

Thanks in advance. Hope all goes well!

  • I have been on modified bed rest since 18 weeks for a shortened cervix. I also have a history of PTL with my DD at 31 weeks. My contractions and PTL started with this pregnancy at about 25 weeks. I was also diagnosed with GD at 28 weeks. I am on procardia now, although it doesnt do anything for me, didnt with my first. I get checked every week. I am like you, though, any movement or standing, walking or anything causes contractions. I do tend to cramp after i get checked but they usually go away after a couple of hours. And like you too, I am 37, will be 38 in Jan. My best advice is to rest as much as possible.. if the doc wants you on complete bed rest, then that is what you need to do to keep the LO in as long as possible. It gets aggrevating, but I got from the recliner to the bed all day long. Hang in there. Just do exactly what the doc says. As long as your doc is checking you and you are not dialating, that is good news, that means the contractions arent doing anything, but aggrevating you of course. But they arent causing your cervix to change. Hope all goes well. Good Luck and hang in there.
  • I lost 155lbs, I have gained 45 of that back. My OB was thinking I might have IGUR, cause my protein and iron was very low.....I go on thurday (21st) for another u/s, NST, and OB check. I was told ever woman is different. Good luck to you.

  • Oh funny.....I wasnt given any meds for PTL. Maybe they are waiting to see if I have dilated more...

I am so tired. I havent layed down today. Hubs bought me a present and it is going to be delivered. I didnt know this untill about 30 mins ago. Since I sleep so bad last night I didnt want to risk that again for tonight. I am resting on chair in living room, getting up to potty and get food. I have done a few chores, but nothing strenurous(sp). Baby Chance is moving alot...flipping and rolling and kicking alot. I will say that when I was out for those 3 hours yesterday afternoon, I felt so much pressure down there..swore I dilated some more. Especially after the contractions and BH's last night. I really hope I get good news on thursday. I am quite sure I am not getting off bedrest. Hopefully it will be back to modified and I havent dilated anymore.
