short cervix+LO hitting cervix

So I'm being monitored for a short cervix (2.8 at 27 1/2 weeks but no funneling)  I know that LO is low and head down and she's been hitting my cervix the last 2 days and sometimes my butt.  Should I be worried about this?

I know it's normal for LO to hit you do there but it worries me b/c my cervix is short.

Re: short cervix+LO hitting cervix

  • Well I would say as long as she is head down then that is helpful. I have been monitored as well for short cervix, 0.9 at 26 weeks, 4 days. My LO is also a mover, and he would scare me at how active he would be for the integrity of the cervix - but on the flip side I would be scared if he didn't move. If you are able they say to try and change positions to get LO to maybe change the direction of movements. This sometimes would help me. I am now at 34 weeks - and still holding pretty steady on bedrest for the time being. Good luck to you and don't worry too much! :)

  • Thanks...any suggestions on ways to get her to move away?

  • I have a cerclage for my shortened cervix and baby head butts it all day long. Hasn't been a problem for me--just annoying.

  • I know exactly the sensation you are referring to! I had a cerclage for 16 weeks & LO frequently banged her head into it. I could feel the resistance & tension. The cerclage was removed last Thursday & she seemed to "settle in", there wasn't as much tension. Today, she's been more active lower in my uterus & I feel her hitting my cervix/pelvic bone. I described the sensation to my husband as hitting my funny bone. At last measurement prior to cerclage removal my cervix measured 1.4cm. I am hoping to carry to term & reassured by PP who's cervix was measuring .9cm...there is hope for we short cervix girl. I am definitely scared that my cervix will begin to open as a result of the pressure. How often are you seeing your doctor? I'd mention it to him/her & see what they say. I have been able to relieve the pressure/get her to move by changing position. Sitting up seems to cause the most pressure, so, I lay on my sides constantly & gently massage my belly. The more relaxed I am, the more relaxed she seems to be.

     Good Luck!

I don't have a clerage or anything b/c I'm measuring at 2.8 as of now...I see my regular obgyn one every 2 weeks and see the high risk Dr every 2 weeks for my follow up ultrasound...they are alternate weeks so I see one of them every week.  I plan on asking my obgyn about it when I see her on Wed but I'm assuming there is nothing I can do.  I guess I'll see next week if her hitting it actually changed my cervical length
