I'm sorry, I know I should have called my OB yesterday but DH stayed home and we slept all day while the kids were at school. Now the office is closed, and I know there are a lot of us who are sick on this board who might be able to help.
I'm stuffy, runny, and congested. I'm not taking anything now, but if it gets worse I'd like to have the option. Has anyone's OB told them a cold medication that is safe to take while pregnant?
Re: Ok, all of you sickos... what medicine can I take?
My doc said plain mucinex (not d), plain robitussin (not dm) and plain sudafed (not pe) were okay. And of course, Tylenol. But not Tylenol cold.
I took the sudafed, but I don't honestly think it did much. I just had to kind of rest and wait it out.
It's a little scary because everyone's doctors tell them different things.
I hope you feel better soon
ETA: oh yes, benadryl. forgot about that one. I avoid it because it makes me sleepy, but my doctor said it was fine to take.

[spoiler]
My OB sent a paper home with me that listed all the meds i could take for different symptoms. For Allergies/Colds/Coughs It lists Benadryl, Chlortrimeton, and Sudafed.
Nasal Decongestant sprays are OK if used for less than 5 days. You can make drops by boiling half teaspoon salt in one cup of water and cooling before use put 2-3 drops in each nostril every 4-6 hours
And you can also use Robitussin, Guaituss and generics. Robitussin DM and others with DM on the labels.
I had severe allergies a few weeks ago and i called thier office and since i can't take Sudafed i was wondering if i could take something other than Benadryl and they told me i can also use Tylenol Allergy pills.
I picked up some Robitussin from the store the other day, but there are SO many different kinds, I had to ask the pharmacist for the plain stuff.
But, ditto all the PP'ers.
Thanks for the suggestions! DH has been planning a big surprise day out for us for months, and I want to make sure I'm not miserable for it. I'm going to go raid our medicine cabinet now!

My doc allows plain Sudafed (personally, I only took one dose and it made my heart race, so no more) and Tylenol Cold. She also suggested plain saline spray in the nose for congestion.
I heard some doctors do not allow Tylenol Cold, so I did not even try it. I drank tons of water, slept/laid around as much as possible, sucked on cough drops, drank hot tea, and ate some homemade chicken soup. The head cold eventually got better, it just took longer than usual.
