Two Under 2

Split-Level Home Owners

Hey Everyone,

DH and I would love to have another baby soon. DD is 5 months old and we want them close together...only issue- we have a split-level home and only two bedrooms on the top floor and one bedroom on the bottom (basement level) How would you arrange the kids?! This was meant to be a starter home- but cannot sell in this market right now. I really do not want our house to be the reason we need to put off having more kids- but cannot decide how I would arrange everyone...advice needed and appreicated! TIA

Re: Split-Level Home Owners

  • we are in our (now) overpriced starter home townhouse as well.  Upstairs (3rd floor) 2 bedrooms, 1st floor small office bedroom.  Kids are sharing a room and baby #2 will sleep in his/her crib in OUR bedroom until about 6 months.

This would have been my suggestion- once you're got two sleeping through the night I would move them into the same room.

  • I would have them share a room until we moved to a house where all the bedrooms were on the same floor.

  • We kept the nursery the nursery and moved my daughter downstairs. It's not ideal but it has been totally fine. I bought a video monitor for my older dd's room so I can see her all night and we put a doorknob lock on her door and close it so she can't get out and wander around at night (not that she would, that's not her personality).

It's been fine for us, but we are selling our house, so maybe since I know it's not forever I am more tolerant of the setup. :)
