Question 1: What are your go to 15 carb snacks? Is there any food you really miss? and have you found an alternative to that food or a way to sneak it into your diet?

Question 2: Any updates? Complaints or vents?

  • 1) I generally have some yogurt.  Or a granola bar.  Depends on my mood, and what we have in the house.  If I'm REALLY craving carbs, I'll go a tiny bit over the 15, and have a piece of bread. >.<  I did find that watermelon didn't spike me like my dietitian told me it would.  So, until they weren't being sold in our stores anymore, I kind of pigged out on it. lol

    2) I get really frustrated with this.  Honestly, I really like carbs.  I never realized how much before.  My biggest frustration lately is keeping my keytones down.  I just CAN NOT get them to go away.  I honestly don't know what else to do; I've done everything the diabetic nurse and dietitian have told me to in regards to this.  But they just won't go away.

    On the other hand, I went to the Cheesecake Factory the other night, drank regular (not diet) soda, had yummy food, and cheesecake.  I looked up the carb count after I got home, and it was probably about 4x what I'm supposed to have at dinner.  My numbers were perfect though.  2 hours after dinner, it was 109.  I was happy, though still kind of confused.  

    ETA: (I wake up fairly late, sometimes... ) I just did my first morning blood sugar.  It was 109.  I am SO pissed off.  I know that I shouldn't be, but there is NO reason it should be that high this morning.  For fvck's sake, I spent a good 15 minutes throwing up after waking up today.  Sorry for the mini rant, I'm just so angry that NOTHING seems to be going right lately.

  • Question 1: What are your go to 15 carb snacks? Is there any food you really miss? and have you found an alternative to that food or a way to sneak it into your diet?

    My go to snack is usually a granola bar or a small apple. I feel like I live off granola bars, I try to mix up the variety as much as possible so I don't get tired of them. My go to snack when I was pg with ds were fiber one bars and I haven't been able to eat one since.

    I miss garlic bread, lol. Well, I let myself have one piece the other day when we had lasagna, but I would have loved to just sit down and eat the whole loaf. 

    Question 2: Any updates? Complaints or vents?

    My fasting numbers are still too high, they are going to be increasing my dosage of glyburide soon. And they are considering putting me on in twice a day depending on how my numbers are over the next week. My after meal numbers have been right around 120 lately or a little higher. I'm going to have to pay extra close attention to what I'm eating to make sure it's not something I'm eating. 

    I had my first weekly NST and ultrasound yesterday and everything was great!

    I try to eat fruit, cheese and a few crackers- I get 15-30 carbs for snack so I usually take as much as I can since I can only eat about 20 or less at breakfast or my numbers get too high.  I have also been having some chocolate snacks lately beause I am craving it.  I figure it is within my allowed carbs so I think I am fine. (?)

    Question 2: Any updates? Complaints or vents? 

    I have been able to control my after breakfast numbers which is great- but I feel like unless I just went grocery shopping it can be hard to have the right foods on me everyday.  I am still craving a HUGE slice of chocolate cake.  I am going to ask at my appointment in 1 week if I can forget about the GD on the day of my shower.  I want to eat the food my family h as ordered- along with the cupcakes.

     I think I would "forget" to check my blood sugar on the day of the shower

  • Question 1: I've been ignoring the snack because I just can't control my other numbers. My doc is putting me on insulin on Monday. Insulin also gets me an automatic 39 week induction.

    Question 2: Don't get me started....I basically can't really enjoy any carbs at this point without my numbers going crazy. Maybe after the insulin I'll be able to handle a wider range of things and so I'll be able to zero in on my "miss" list a little better.
