I bought the colgate classica I (recommended by baby bargins book). I got it for mid$120s from diapers.com (using the 15% off new customer discount). Reviews for this mattress are overwelmingly positive (a few say its too firm, but I'll take the reduced SIDS risk over comfort). Plus its foam so a lot lighter than coil for lifting/changing sheets.
We just today bought a springfoam mattress from Buy Buy Baby for around $120, less after a coupon. It's on springs so it is more firm, but we'll probably buy a mattress pad so it's a little more comfortable. It can be used for the toddler bed as well, so it's a good investment. The saleslady told us foam is cheaper but the baby can sink into the mattress a little more easily, so we thought a mattress with springs would provide a safer bed.

The sales lady is mislead....
My DD has been sleeping on the Colgate Classica III for over 2 years now and it is in like new condition. Absolutely NO impressions in her mattress at all! Firmness is very important, the Classica III has one side that is very firm for infants and a less firm side for toddlers. Foam is way lighter and easier to lift out of the crib for changing sheets.
