TTC After a Loss 6 Months+

First official shot......

Tomorrow night my dh will be giving me my very first shot of my IVF cycle......I have to say that Im so nervous.....excited to get things moving, but so nervous.....I have felt like I've been in a constant state of PMS since being on these bcps......Im nervous about me on the injections....my dh also mentioned last night that he's nervous about administering the injections......any words of advice to make this process go smoother?

Re: First official shot......

  • I have no advice, but good luck!!!

  • If your afraid it's going to hurt try icing the area first and don't hesitate when doing the shot- that just makes it worse. Good luck!
  • Loading the player...
  • Start the process like 30 minutes or more before the scheduled shot... or at least that's what we did.

I also had DH give shots and while he's not skittish with needles, he was nervous about doing it correctly. There are several tutorial videos that are actually quite good online. I think youtube has some and my RE has great ones on their website (shadygrovefertility.com).

If he's at all nervous (or just wants assurance he's doing it right) have him load the dose step-by-step with the video.

For both of us the first shot was the worst (even worse than the trigger) just because of the nerves issue.

    Good luck hon!

  • I have no advice just GOOD LUCK!!!

  • Thanks girls!!!   I will have dh check out the videos to help boost his confidence, I do much better when he is confident.............My nerves are more so the thought of pumping stuff into my body vs. being scared of an injection/needle. Watching the Guiliana and Bill IVF process helped me have a better idea of what to expect but Im still so nervous about OHSS and the unknown.
  • What will you be taking?  I'm on day 5 of my first IVF cycle doing Lupron and Gonal-F.  The Gonal-F pen is a breeze the Lupron injection isn't as easy but not too bad. they are both sub-cutaneous and not IM which I hear hurts worse.  I second the video recomendation - I watched them a couple of times.

Looks like we're pretty much on the same protocal.....Im starting with the Lupron, overlapping the bcps and then on to the Gonal-F pen and then the progesterone shots......How have you been feeling on the Lupron??
  • Good luck Erica!!

  • Like they all said, watch the videos a few times. The first is always the worst. I have taken gonad-f so far and injected it myself. Having my husband do it made me more nervous.
  • Good luck, hon!  I'm excited for you!

  • Good luck, the first one is always the worst. I was so nervous my first shot and I kept thinking it would be worse then it was. After a little while you get used to it and it's not that bad.
