New Daddy Gift

There was another post somewhere about new dad gifts & a girl had suggested an engraved cigar case.  A lot of girls posted that their husbands were getting a baby, and that was it, but I thought this was a clever way to commemorate their entry into fatherhood.  You know, with guys, it's all about making them feel extra special, it's so easy, and just makes them love you more.  I know, with a new baby, a relationship tends to be put on the backburner, so doing something thoughtful for him like breaking out a cool gift, after heroicly giving birth to his son seems like a brilliant super-wife idea!

I decided to drop by the local Cigar Store today and see what I could find.  I ran into the same guy who had helped us order our wedding wine and champange just a year ago, a friend of DH's!  We were both surprised to see each other, bc we both just celebrated year anniversaries a week apart, and his wife is now 5months! :) He was really helpful and suggested some cigars-- turns out, some pretty good brands offer "It's A Boy" labels, not just the cheap, novelty kinds.  Apparently, all the good cuban cigar companies are in the Dominican Republic, so you can still get high quality cigars. He helped me find an inexpensive, but really cool, (like, $25)  small, desktop humidor.  I'm going to have a plaque made with Baby's name and b-day and have it installed on the humidor and get him plenty of cigars to pass out to our dads and brothers, which will hopefully send everyone downstairs and out of my hair so that I can rest!

  • That's a cool idea but I'm not planning on getting DH anything. I'm not expecting a "push" gift from him either.  I personally don't see the point in gifting when the greatest gift we'll both receive is a baby we both created.

That was me who posted about doing this. I'm actually planning on going to pick it out today. Smile I'm glad you were able to find one you liked!! I really liked this idea for a couple of reasons... not only is it a special gift for DH and that can keep (my DH is very sentimental about things like that) but it will also be a great bonding experience for him and the other men in our families. I've very excited about giving it to him.

FWIW, I'm not expecting a "push gift" at all. I highly doubt DH has even heard of this lol.

Love the idea for a bday or Christmas. BTW all the good Cuban cigars are IN CUBA! But if you want ripoffs of Cuban cigars then those are made in the Dominican Republic (they copied the names and labels of the most well-known Cuban cigars).

I'm sorry, I have to laugh at the rationale behind this.

The baby isn't enough to bond you and your husband more but a cigar & cigar case will?!

  • I got DH a practical gift - a NY Yankees diaper bag.  It came yesterday and he loves it.  I'm sure I will give him something adorable for Father's Day, but this was a necessity (well, the diaper bag part was!) and he's been so amazing through the whole pregnancy that I wanted to do something nice for him.

Ha, this cracked me up!!!  Clearly, just a gift for my awesome husband so he can go do the proud daddy thing with the rest of our relatives.  Not a bonding thing, just letting him know I appreciate him, bc he's been so awesome.
